Director Phyllida Lloyd: The time had come to make some reparation

The latest project from the director of the award-winning Abba musical, Mamma Mia!, and the Oscar-winning The Iron Lady is an all-female version of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, which has just opened at the Donmar Warehouse in London.

Phyllida Lloyd's production has had mixed reviews. One critic said it was an ingenious concept that brought a fresh perspective to traditionally male roles. Another said it wasn't just Caesar who got murdered, but the play.

I went to the theatre to meet the Lloyd, and asked what her motivation was for staging the women-only production.

"I felt the time had come to make some reparation," she told me.
