Day-Lewis up for Evening Standard best actor award

Daniel Day-Lewis has received plaudits for his performance in Lincoln

Daniel Day-Lewis has received another best actor nomination for his performance in Lincoln, at this year's Evening Standard film awards.

The Anglo-Irish star is up against Toby Jones for the psychological drama Berberian Sound Studio and Les Miserables' Eddie Redmayne.

Ben Wheatley's black comedy, Sightseers is up for three awards, including best film and best actress for Alice Lowe.

Skyfall and Berberian Sound Studio will also vie for best film.

Wheatley, whose previous films include Down Terrace and the Kill List, has a further nod with a nomination for the Peter Sellers award for comedy.

He will compete against The Sapphires star Chris O'Dowd and Seven Psychopaths writer and director Martin McDonagh.

Bafta rising star nominee Andrea Riseborough is in the running for best actress for her performance as an IRA member in Shadow Dancer, along with Charlotte Rampling who plays a femme fatale Anna Welles in the noir thriller I, Anna.

Shadow Dancer, adapted from a novel by ITN journalist Tom Bradby, is also nominated for best screenplay.

Ken Loach's Scottish comedy-drama, The Angels' Share, is up for two awards.

Paul Laverty is nominated for best screenplay, while actor Paul Brannigan is up for most promising newcomer, for his portrayal of a Glaswegian father.

Meanwhile, in the best documentary category, Bart Layton's thriller The Imposter is up against Kevin Macdonald's biopic of the reggae legend, Marley.

They will complete against London: The Modern Babylon, Julien Temple's hymn to the city and its history.

The Evening Standard British film awards have been presented annually since 1973.

This year's ceremony, hosted by actor Stephen Mangan, will be held at the London Film Museum on Monday 4 February.
