Biffy Clyro score first number one album

Biffy Clyro's Opposites is the fastest selling album of 2013 so far, according to the Official Chart Company

Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro have claimed their first UK number one album with their latest record, Opposites.

The band's sixth studio album knocked the soundtrack to the film, Les Miserables into second place after two weeks at the top.

Dutch duo Bingo Players remained top of the singles chart for a second week with their track Get Up (Rattle).

The dance track, featuring US hip-hop quartet Far East Movement, was one of the biggest club hits of 2012.

Thrift Shop by Seattle-based rapper Macklemore jumped an impressive 22 places to take the number two spot, pushing Britney Spears' collaboration with Will.i.am, Scream and Shout, down to third place.

Taylor Swift moved down a place to number four with I Knew You Were Trouble while Rihanna rounded off the top five with her track Stay, featuring Mikky Ekko.

There were top five positions for another two new entries in the album chart.

Fleetwood Mac's 1977 album Rumours went back into the chart at number three, while Justin Beiber scored number five for the acoustic version of his third studio album, Believe, released in June 2012.

Elsewhere, Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli entered the chart at number nine with Passione, while Alicia Keys' Girl On Fire moved up 25 places to 13.

There were only two new releases in this week's official top 40 singles chart.

The track Rewind by London rapper Devlin featuring Diane Birch scraped into the top 10, while Disclosure and AlunaGeorge's track White Noise went in at number 28.
