Carrie Underwood wins at country music awards

Underwood took the fan-voted award while Lambert also won two prizes

Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert were among the big winners at this year's CMT country music awards in Nashville.

Underwood, who won video of the year for Blown Away, also took the fan-voted award for the second year in a row.

The singer, from Oklahoma, capped her win with an emotional tribute to the tornado victims in her home state.

Double-winner Lambert took female video of the year for Mama's Broken Heart and performance video of the year.

The night's other big award winners were Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley who make up the group Florida Georgia Line.

They won breakthrough video and duo video of the year for their hit Cruise, closing Wednesday night's show with a performance of a remixed version of the song with the rapper Nelly.

The song earned its top five place on Billboard's Hot 100 pop songs chart this week, making it a rare country crossover hit.

"That came from the songwriting gods themselves," Hubbard said.

"We wrote that song with a couple of buddies a few years back. It started at our house. We watched it go from the living room to the stage to the studio to the radio, and it's just continued to build. It's been a wild thing to watch."

Other winners on the night included Lady Antebellum for group video of the year for Downtown, and Jason Aldean for the track The Only Way I Know, which won collaborative video of the year.

Aldean, who co-hosted the show, kicked off the ceremony with a performance of American Woman with Lenny Kravitz.
