More Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time performances cancelled

The Apollo Theatre has been closed since the incident on 19 December

Performances of West End play The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time have been cancelled for an extra week following a ceiling collapse at the Apollo Theatre last month.

The venue had been set to re-open on Monday. According to owner Nimax Theatres, however, performances will now resume on 13 January.

Ticket holders are advised to contact their original point of purchase.

Nearly 80 people were injured when plasterwork fell during a performance.

Part of the balcony was also taken down when the ornate ceiling collapsed in the Grade II listed building.

Nimax Theatres described the incident as "shocking and upsetting", adding that its "thoughts are with the audience and staff who were in the theatre and their families".

"Performances of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time," it went on, "have been cancelled until and including Saturday 11 January 2014."

Initial safety checks by authorities were completed two days after the 19 December incident, with the police ruling out criminal action.

An investigation by Westminster City Council into the cause of the collapse is currently underway, with the results expected in the coming weeks.

However, the council said it would have to conclude its investigation before it could say whether the venue on London's Shaftesbury Avenue was safe to re-open.

Based on the novel by Mark Haddon, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was first staged at the National Theatre in 2012.

The award-winning show is currently scheduled to run until 25 October 2014.
