Lego Movie stands tall at UK box office

A sequel for the Lego Movie was recently announced

The Lego Movie is holding firm at the top of the UK box office for a third consecutive week, taking £3.3m over the weekend.

Liam Neeson thriller Non-Stop, in which he plays a federal air marshal, was the highest new entry in second place, raking in £2.6m.

It opened in the US at number one this week.

The UK's number three position was also filled by a new entry - Ride Along, starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube.

In the US, the comedy cop caper stayed at pole position in the box office chart for three weeks.

The Book Thief, an adaptation starring Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson, made number four, while animation Mr Peabody and Sherman fell one place to number five.

If the Lego movie continues its reign next week, it will become the first film since Les Miserables in 2012 to spend four consecutive weeks at the top of the UK film chart.

There were no other new entries in the top 10.
