Tickets to a retrospective of fashion designer Alexander McQueen at London's Victoria and Albert Museum have gone on sale.

The exhibition, which took New York by storm when it opened in 2011 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met), will open next March.

Savage Beauty became one of the Met's top 10 most-visited exhibitions and won both critical and popular acclaim.

The London-born designer killed himself in 2010, at the age of 40.

The exhibition will include pieces from McQueen's 1992 graduate collection and his unfinished autumn 2010 collection

"I am thrilled to announce that the V&A will bring this wonderful exhibition to London to celebrate the extraordinary creative talent of one of the most innovative designers of recent times," said museum director Martin Roth.

"Lee Alexander McQueen was brought up in London, studied here and based his globally successful McQueen fashion brand here - by staging the exhibition at the V&A it feels like we are bringing his work home."

The original exhibition showcased work dating back to McQueen's MA graduate collection in 1992, up to his unfinished autumn/winter 2010 collection.

The New York Times called it, external "utterly manipulative... poised on a line where fashion turns into something else".

The London exhibition - curated by V&A fashion curator Claire Wilcox - will be based on the New York version organised by the Costume Institute in New York.

It will run from 14 March to 19 July 2015.
