Oscars 2017 pictures: Glitz and glamour on the red carpet

The stars of the silver screen walked the red carpet for the 89th Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

Ryan Gosling was nominated for best actor for his role in La La Land. He plays Sebastian Wilder, a jazz pianist chasing his dreams in Hollywood.

Best supporting actress nominee Octavia Spencer was greeted by television personality and former American footballer Michael Strahan.

British director Orlando Von Einsiedel and producer Joanna Natasegara won the Oscar for best documentary short for their film The White Helmets, about volunteer rescue workers in Syria.

English singer, songwriter, composer, and producer Mica Levi wrote the score for critically acclaimed biopic Jackie, starring Natalie Portman, which was up for best original score.

Felicity Jones, star of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story presented the award for best visual effects at the ceremony with her co-star Riz Ahmed. In 2014 her performance in The Theory of Everything won her a nomination for best actress.

Lucas Hedges is just 20 and yet his performance as Patrick Chandler in Manchester by the Sea won him a nomination for best supporting actor.
