    Ms Morgan has shown a slide with the vaccine take-up across all age groups for the first and second doses.

    She said that, over the past 12 months, "our amazing vaccination teams have delivered more than five-and-a-half million vaccines to people in Wales, through a new service set up from scratch".

    This was the equivalent of 15,500 vaccines a day, every day, for the past year, she added.

    Ms Morgan goes on to pay tribute to the NHS which "has already done so much to protect people across Wales".

    She said that it's been just over a year since the first Covid-19 vaccine – the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine – was approved for use in the UK and the first doses were given in Wales.

    Ms Morgan says: "There’s a lot we don’t know about Omicron but all the evidence we do have so far suggests this is a fast-moving form of the virus which will quickly overtake Delta as the dominant form.

    "We need to do everything we can to protect ourselves. And that includes increasing vaccination.

    "We have accepted the JCVI’s recommendation to expand the Covid-19 booster programme to all adults and to offer 12 to 15-year-olds a second dose of the vaccine."

    The press conference is under way outlining how the Covid booster rollout programme will be carried out.

    Health Minister Eluned Morgan says: "Last week, we updated you about the emergence of the new omicron variant and the actions we’ve immediately put in place to respond to it.

    "This is a worrying new development in the pandemic.

    "Yesterday, Public Health Wales confirmed three more cases in Wales, bringing the total to four. But we have to be prepared for cases to rise quickly and sharply."

    GPs, pharmacies, councils, the armed forces, the fire service and students will all be involved in helping to hit a target of 200,000 boosters a day.

    The jabs will be offered to all adults by the end of January, the Welsh government has said.

    Health Minister Eluned Morgan has urged people to get the booster jabs - she has described it as "the best Christmas present you can give yourself and your family this year".

    More than 80% of the over-65s have already had a booster in Wales.
