    That's all from the Business Live page today, but tomorrow will be a busy day! We are expecting results from department store John Lewis, for the six weeks ending 2nd January, to see how the retailer did during the Christmas and New Years period. 

    We'll have more gadgetry news from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. 

    Monsanto will be releasing financial results, and the World Bank will be launching its winter edition of its Global Economic Prospects, so we can see how the global economy is developing. There's also a bunch of service economy data from Asia and Europe.

  2. US stocks close slightly higherpublished at 21:15

    The Dow Jones closed a smidgen higher after a day of lagging - it closed up 0.05% higher to 17157.64 points, still dragged back by falls in China.

    It was a busy day for automakers who reported sales figures - Fiat Chrysler shares close 0.78% higher after reporting a 19% jump in sales.

    However, Ford shares were down 1.79% after its results disappointed.

    Gun maker Smith & Wesson shares surged 11% after reporting an increase in sales ahead of Obama's speech on gun control measures.

    The 2015 total, up 5.7% from a year earlier, just edged past the previous record of 17.41 million from 2000.

    In December, the total number of light vehicle sales came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 17.34 million units.

  4. Huawei targets women with new smartwatchespublished at 20:13

    Huawei has announced two new smartwatches at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, which are aimed at the female market. The wearables are called Jewel and Elegant. Huawei says that "for the first time", you can make a call directly from the watch, using a built in speaker.

    Internet firm Yahoo has shut down its video hub Yahoo Screen after the website failed to attract viewers.

    The closure is part of the company's efforts to cut costs as chief executive Marissa Mayer tries to make it profitable.

    Ms Mayer redesigned Yahoo Screen 16 months ago to make it a competitor to YouTube and Netflix and more accessible to mobile users.

  6. Ford 'not lagging behind' with driverless cars - chief executivepublished at 19:15

    As Ford announced its increased investment in driverless car technology, chief executive Mark Fields told the BBC during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that the firm will not be commenting on whether or not it has snubbed Google when it comes to the in-car technology needed for its autonomous vehicles.

    So how far along is Ford in its public-road-testing for the new cars? "We've been working on these for 10 years now, and we just got our license for public-road testing in California, and along with the tripling of our fleet, you can see how committed we are."

    He adds that Ford will be "ramping up" its testing in the coming years - and disagrees that Ford is lagging behind competitors such as Google when it comes to driverless vehicle testing so far.

  7. Apple to cut iPhone 6s productionpublished at 18:46

    Apple is expected to cut production of its latest iPhone models by about 30% in the January-March quarter, compared with its original plans, according to Japanese news service Nikkei, external.

    Inventories of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have piled up since its launch last September, production will be scaled back to let dealers go through their current stock, Nikkei added.

  8. Concorde chief test pilot dies aged 94published at 18:30

    The 001 prototype Concorde supersonic jet first broke the sound barrier on 1 October 1969.

    At the controls was Andre Turcat (second from left in picture), who was chief test pilot for Concorde from 1964 to 1976.

    As well as flying Mr Turcat had a career in politics, serving as deputy mayor of Toulouse from 1971 to 1977 and was a member of the European parliament from 1980 to 1981.

    Mr Turcat died aged 94 at home in Aix-en-Provence.

  9. HSBC services 'steadily returning'published at 18:10

    After suffering online and mobile banking problems since yesterday, HSBC issued this statement:

  18. London stocks close higherpublished at 16:35

    The FTSE 100 closed 0.48% higher to 6,122.49 points.

    Shares in Home Retail Group ended with a surge of 40% after it emerged that the firm rejected a takeover bid from supermarket Sainsbury's.

    Sainsbury's shares on the other hand fell over 5%, making it the biggest loser of the day.

    Shares in Next ended down 4.6% after disappointing financial results.

  19. 'Shipping activity falls amidst China turmoil'published at 16:17

    The Baltic Dry Index, a measure of the cost of transporting commodities, fell to record lows amidst China's economic slowdown, reports Bloomberg, external. The index fell 1.1%, below a previous record in December. 

    All of the monitored vessel types fell, indicating that shipping activity decreased. Bloomberg added that while movement in stock markets are not directly correlated to shipping activity, both respond to movements in China's wider economy.

    Shares in Home Retail Group have surged almost 40% to 137p per share, after it emerged that the company rejected a takeover bid from supermarket Sainsbury's.
