  17. Peppa Pig boosts Entertainment Onepublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 4 April 2019

    Image caption,

Peppa Pig is hugely popular in China

Shares in Entertainment One are up around 5% after it said its "financial performance of the business is in line with management expectations for the year".

The performance of iconic cartoon character Peppa Pig helped.

"As we continue to focus on unlocking the power and value of creativity, Entertainment One has delivered a solid performance for the year, driven by strong momentum in television, continued growth in family and brands and with the restructuring of film having a beneficial impact on the slate and margins," it adds.

Peppa Pig continued its strong performance in markets around the world, generating multiple revenues outside its licensing and merchandising businesses, it says.

"The production of 117 new episodes is well under way, bringing the total number of available episodes to 381."

The new episodes will be aired by broadcasters from spring 2019 until 2023.

Alongside this, Merlin Entertainments opened two Peppa Pig World of Playcentres during the period, in Shanghai and Dallas, with a further four expected to be opened during the next twelve months, two in China and two in the US.

"These developments will further energise brand awareness and reinforce Peppa Pig's status as an 'evergreen' property. In China, revenues have increased by 50% driven predominately by Peppa Pig."

  18. Boeing’s reputation is on the linepublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 4 April 2019

    Tom Burridge
    BBC transport correspondent

    wreckageImage source, Getty Images

Two crashes, five months apart, with a total of 346 people dead.

Both preliminary crash reports suggest - without apportioning blame - that a new design to the 737-Max 8 malfunctioned, pushing each plane repeatedly into a nose-dive.

One law suit has been filed. More are likely.

The suffering of those who’ve lost loved ones can’t be quantified. But the commercial toll for the manufacturer and damage to its reputation, at this stage, can’t be either.

Hundreds of 737-Maxs are grounded worldwide. Thousands of orders are, for now on ice, and some could even be in jeopardy.

    The Max was Boeing’s answer to Airbus’ A320: a single-aisle, fuel-efficient short-haul plane.

But in the opinion of one experienced 737 pilot, the new anti-stall system, which was added to the aircraft and contributed to both crashes, was ‘flawed’.

Boeing is working to fix it. It needs to get the aircraft certified as safe and back in the air as soon as it can.

But that won’t be straight forward, the regulatory process will be more rigorous and complicated. In this case, standard protocol for aircraft certification has gone out of the window.

    Multiple investigations are underway.

They’ll pour over the original design, how regulators signed it off.

They’ll consider the fact the new anti-stall mechanism was not in the flight manual before the Indonesia crash.

All of these points will be investigated to the nth degree.

The travelling public would expect nothing less.
