It was a summer's day that turned into a nightmare.

On the morning of 22 August 2015, Andy Hill - a veteran military and commercial pilot – inspected the Hawker Hunter plane he was due to fly at the Shoreham Airshow later that day.

Conditions were good when he took off.

But, after Mr Hill flew past spectators and turned, he attempted a loop manoeuvre that the plane was not high or fast enough to complete.

The fighter jet crashed onto the A27, creating a fireball that destroyed several vehicles.

Eleven men were killed and 16 others were injured.

Mr Hill survived. He was taken to hospital and placed into an induced coma before being discharged a month later.

An Air Accidents Investigation Branch inquiry concluded the crash could have been avoided and was caused by pilot error.

Mr Hill was cleared of charges of manslaughter by gross negligence in 2019. In 2022, a coroner concluded the men who died were unlawfully killed.
