Tonight's events took place at a Christmas market in Magdeburg in central Germany.
It's roughly an hour and a half's drive from the capital, Berlin. The annual Christmas market is a big tourist drawcard for the city.
The city is the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt and lies on the Elbe river, with a population of about 240,000.

The suspected driver of a car which ploughed into a crowd at a Christmas market in Magdeburg has been arrested, broadcaster MDR and other local media are reporting.
Witnesses told MDR the car drove straight into the crowd.
