Roberto Eid Forest from the police force is speaking again, saying that as it is an ongoing situation, the police cannot currently confirm if anyone is dead.

He also says that he has no information to give about the victims' ages and whether they were students, but reveals the suspect is a man.

He adds that the police also don't know where smoke visible from the scene originated from.

"Nothing is clear yet," he says.

While Swedish police speak to the media, we're seeing an update on their website.

It says officers "suspect one of the people in the hospital is the perpetrator".

No further information is given, but we'll let you know if we hear anything more on this.

Jonas Claesson steps up to represent local health services.

He says that five people have been taken to A&E.

Four of these have had operations, and one is critically injured. The person who has not had an operation has mild injuries.

There may be more injuries, he says.

Local police chief of Orebro Roberto Eid Forest is first to speak at the news conference and he says officers were first called at 12:33 local time (11:33 GMT) and a "large number of police officers" were sent.

He says officers faced smoke and found a number of people with bullet wounds - one of those injured could be the perpetrator.

Police have started an investigation and have begun evacuating nearby schools which are in lockdown, Forest says.

"We don't want members of the public to go there," he adds.

A news conference, conducted by Swedish police, is happening now.

A teacher who says he's on the Risbergska campus is being quoted by local Swedish media.

Talking to online educational newspaper Vi Larare, Petter Kraftling says:

"I heard shots fired, so I've barricaded myself in and am waiting for news.

"We have an alarm on our security app and I'm communicating with my colleagues."

I studied in Orebro - it is a relatively small place in terms of population and it is the sixth largest city in Sweden.

I am in touch with my professors and they are absolutely shocked. The town, they say, has been deserted and people are not going out of their houses, staying put and staying in as they are afraid of what is going on at this very moment.

I have been monitoring the local broadcaster and they are saying the five injured people are being treated in a local hospital.

We have also been hearing the latest from the teachers who were in the school at the time.

It was at an adult school - an adult training centre - and one of the teachers there has been quoted saying she heard about ten shots. Five shots, then a pause, then five more shots.

We don't yet know who was behind today's attack at the Campus Risbergska community college around 12:30 local time in Orebro (11:30 GMT), but local reports say other schools in the city 200km (125 miles) west of Stockholm are now taking action to ensure their pupils are also safe.

School shootings in Sweden are very rare but there was one south of Stockholm last September, when a 15-year-old is suspected to have wounded a classmate.

Although today's attack appears on the surface very different, the September shooting was linked to Sweden's very real problem of gang violence.

It's too early to link this latest attack to organised crime, but the Swedish government has described it as a significant threat to the country, partly because of the involvement of children being recruited into gangs all over Sweden.

We will find out more from police shortly.

We're hearing from Sweden's Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer, who says the country's government is following the latest developments and is in close contact with police following the shooting.

"The information about the violent attack in Orebro is extremely serious," he's quoted by Reuters as telling reporters.

Since news of this shooting came to light a short time ago, there have been conflicting news reports - some referring to the scene of the attack as a school and others an adult education centre.

A police spokesperson has now told Reuters news agency that the campus houses multiple schools within it, including one for children, but that the shooting took place at the Risbergska school for adults.

We're continuing to bring you the latest on this developing situation in Orebro, Sweden, where a shooting has taken place on a school campus.

Members of the public are being urged to stay away from the area, or stay inside their homes, by police.

In an update just after 14:00 local time (13:00 GMT), the police stressed that "the danger is not over".

"The public must stay away," officers say.

Students in nearby schools, and the school in question, were locked in "for safety reasons," police say.

In a short police statement, officers said:

"There has been a shooting at the school. Four people have been shot.

"The extent of the injuries is unclear. The operation is ongoing."

They then issued an update, minutes later, saying that a fifth person had been shot. They added:

"This is currently seen as attempted murder, arson and aggravated weapons offence."

Five people have been shot at a school in central Sweden but police say the extent of their injuries is not yet known.

The shooting appears to have happened at a Komvux, or adult education centre, in Orebro, 200km (124m) west of Stockholm before 13:00 local time (12:00 GMT).
