Parents respond to college bus crash

    Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: "It is anticipated the road may be closed for up to 12 hours for investigation and recovery work."

    Police have confirmed everyone on the bus had been accounted for and those injured are being treated by the ambulance service.

    The force urged people do not attend the actual scene.

    Barton Peveril Sixth Form College has just said its staff are working closely with police to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its students.

    It asked people not to go to the scene but advised worried parents to gather at an incident centre set up at The Hub at Bishopstoke.

    What looks like a truck with a big crane has just been ushered through by officers.

    Some families are gathered at the Eastleigh Rugby Club Hub awaiting more information from police.

    The ambulance service says all patients had now been taken off the bus.

    A spokesperson added: "We’re continuing to support and assess patients on scene.

    "Three high priority patients are being taken to hospital. Around 14 with less serious injuries are being treated on scene."

    Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the double-decker was College Bus 607 for Barton Peveril students.

    The force said in a statement: "We ask that people do not attend the actual scene. For concerned parents, an Incident Centre has been established at The Hub at Bishopstoke.

    "An officer and college staff will be available at the Hub to provide updates and address any questions you may have."

    The Incident Centre is The Hub, Bishopstoke Road, Eastleigh, SO50 6LA.

    South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: "We have sent multiple units to the incident including five ambulances, two helicopters, and specialist response units.

    "We’re continuing to support and assess patients on scene. Currently there are three high priority patients all who have been removed from the bus and are being taken to hospital. Around 14 with less serious injuries being treated on scene."

    Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed it is "dealing with an incident on Bishopstoke Road in Eastleigh, where a bus has left the carriageway into a river".

    "Emergency services are in attendance and the road has been closed so please avoid the area if you can," a spokesperson added.
