Students Luka Chijiutomi-Ghosh and Talya Kuleshnyk have arrived early to secure a spot near the start of the route.

Talya, 18, expects the atmosphere to be “electric”.

She says: “I only became a Crystal Palace fan a few months ago and since then I'm really invested.

“I love the games and it's just incredible to see that they've won a trophy and it's mad to see all these people come out. I’m so excited and it's amazing.”

For Luka, also 18, an Eagles fan growing up in Thornton Heath, says Talya has been “quite spoilt”.

He says: “I’ve tried to explain the previous years of finishing 12th and having never won a trophy, nothing.

“It’s going to be incredible. I just can't wait."

"I'm so happy that there's actually a parade in south London, going along through South Norwood. It's unreal. I feel like I'm dreaming.”

Billy Thompson, 41, was the goalkeeper in the Paralympics GB cerebral palsy team at London 2012 and went to Palace's FA Cup semi-final and final at Wembley.

“To be part of this is a fantastic experience,” he says. “It's just our time. It was just amazing.

“I woke up on Sunday with a sore head and thought, ‘Did this really happen?' The fans were amazing - Wembley was shaking and what it means to the club and the people around here. It's absolutely amazing.”

His house, adorned with Crystal Palace scarf, flag and sign, is very close to the start of the parade route.

He adds: “You can't really buy better seats. It's a lifetime experience, a bit like the final, and to see the cup a bit closer will be fantastic.

“It takes me back to London 2012 with the heroes’ parade after the Games. It's going to be that deep. It's bringing back good memories. Everyone's really excited.”

This part of south London is already starting to look like a sea of blue and red.

As fans line the streets along Whitehorse Lane, there are flags and scarves in the windows of houses and the sound of horns fills the air.

The fact that this is free is already attracting supporters who might not ordinarily be able to afford matchday tickets.

And while police patrol the barriers on either side of the road, expectation grows among Eagles hoping to catch a glimpse of the FA Cup trophy as it passes on the double decker bus.

Less than two weeks ago, cheers erupted from one set of fans at Wembley, as Crystal Palace won the FA Cup, their first-ever major trophy.

It was the work of attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze, who secured the 1-0 lead over Manchester City 16 minutes in.

The greatest day in Palace's history was richly deserved and reward for faith in the work of manager Oliver Glasner, who had masterminded their superb run.

Palace did not win their first Premier League game this season until 27 October, but the payback is this big prize - as well as a place in the Europa League next season.

  7. Parade is 'something I've waited for my whole life'published at 12:10 British Summer Time 26 May

"It's gonna be something I've waited for my whole life," Palace fan Wayne Spiller told the BBC this morning, as he geared up to attend today's celebrations.

Sitting alongside his daughter Poppy, he says he is happy to be able to take her and the family, as the moment is something he couldn't celebrate with his late dad.

The pair were also in Liverpool yesterday for the last game of the Premier League season, seeing the Eagles clinch a 1-1 draw against the title winners.

But today was about seeing the team he's supported through "thick and thin for the past 40-odd years with that trophy", he said, adding: "I can't get it into my head."

Poppy said for the first few days after Palace won, she had to tell her dad to "shut up" because it was all he spoke about.

She's confident that she'll be cheering louder, though.

The bus parade isn’t the only event planned today.

Palace fans also have the chance to attend the party on the pitch from 14:15 BST.

Unlike the bus parade, this is a ticketed event and - predictably - it has sold out.

This will include live entertainment, special guests and end-of-season awards, the club says. Food and drink will be on sale.

  9. Today's parade route detailspublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 26 May

The open-top bus parade will start at the top of Whitehorse Lane at 12:45 BST, ending at Selhurst Park.

Tickets aren’t needed for the parade, which turns on to Park Road and Holmesdale Road before getting to the stadium entrance.

It is scheduled to take about 45 minutes.

Crystal Palace were formed 164 years ago. Now, all these years later, they are finally welcoming home a major trophy.

Selhurst Park will be the end point for today’s victory parade, which will see the club’s players show off the FA Cup to their home crowds in south London.

The celebrations are happening just over two weeks since the Eagles' triumph.

They won 1-0 win against Manchester City at the Wembley final thanks to a goal from England international Eberechi Eze.

Expect to see that elation again as the open-top bus and its precious cargo heads along Whitehorse Lane to Holmesdale Road, from 12:45 BST, before the party-on-the-pitch event begins at 14:15.
