    Roads around the water station in Eastleigh are currently facing heavy traffic. Passfield Avenue, Leigh Road and Southampton Road are all currently very busy.

    Southern Water have posted on their website that they intend to have an update on the situation by 1500 GMT.

    The firm also says it will be providing more infromation about further water stations, after it opened one in Eastleigh.

    Breaking

    The first collection point for anyone needing water has now been opened. It can be found at Places Leisure Centre - formerly Fleming Park - in Passfield Avenue, Eastleigh, SO50 9NL.

    Southern Water says it is setting up three bottled water stations.

    The water firm said they are expected to open shortly.

    As well as the schools that have already announced closures due to a lack of water, the following ones have also said they are closing for the day:

    Southern Water said the issue was affecting those in 10 postcodes: SO15, SO16, SO40, SO42, SO43, SO45, SO50, SO51, SO52, SO53.

    Stephanie Davidovitz, Head of Water Networks at Southern Water said: "Our Testwood Water Supply works has run into some issues.

    "We are working through plans to look at how we can restore supply in some areas but it is an emerging issue."

    The water firm said water was being delivered to vulnerable customers on the its priority list.

    The following schools have sent pupils home as a result of the lack of water, according to Hampshire County Council, external:

    • Halterworth in the Test Valley
    • The New Forest Academy
    • Cadland Primary School
    • Wildground in the New Forest
    • Mountbatten School Romsey
    • Orchard Jumior School

    So far, no schools in Southampton have been closed.

    A map on the Southern Water website, external suggests the Lordswood, Maybush, Upper Shirley, Shirley Warren, Coxford, Millbrook and Lordshill areas of Southampton are affected.

    Outside of the city as well as Totton, Calmore, Nursling, Hillyfields, Romsey, North Baddesley, Chandler's Ford, Marchwood, Hythe, Dibden Purlieu, Fawley, Lepe and Lyndhurst are all impacted too.

    The water firm said it was working to fix the problem but it was "going to take time".

    Southern Water says bottled water stations were being set up their locations and opening times are yet to be given.

    A fault at a water supply works is affecting supplies to Southampton, Eastleigh, Romsey and the New Forest.

    Southern Water said the problem caused by caused by a "technical issue" at our Testwood Water Supply Works meant low pressure or a loss of water supply.
