Roads around the water station in Eastleigh are currently facing heavy traffic. Passfield Avenue, Leigh Road and Southampton Road are all currently very busy.
A fault at a water supply works is affecting supplies to Southampton, Eastleigh, Romsey and the New Forest, closing several schools.
Southern Water said the problem caused by caused by a "technical issue" at our Testwood Water Supply Works meant low pressure or a loss of water supply.
The water firm said it was working to fix the problem but it was "going to take time".
It added bottled water stations were being set up, and their locations and opening times would be announced once operational.
The first one was set up at Places Leisure Centre - formerly Fleming Park - in Passfield Avenue, Eastleigh.
Stephanie Davidovitz, head of water networks at Southern Water, said: "Our Testwood Water Supply works has run into some issues.
"We are working through plans to look at how we can restore supply in some areas but it is an emerging issue."
The water firm said water was being delivered to vulnerable customers on the its priority list.
A number of schools, external have sent pupils home as a result including, North Baddesley Infant School and Halterworth in the Test Valley, and The New Forest Academy, Cadland Primary School and Wildground in the New Forest and Mountbatten school Romsey.
