Above me hangs a basketball hoop in the Medina leisure centre here in Newport.

Two constituencies to fight over for the first time in the island's history. Richard Quigley from the Labour Party has entered the building ahead of his expected victory in the West.

A sullen looking Bob Seely has entered the sports hall. He has held the all-island seat for the Conservatives since 2017

It’s all still to fight for in the East as Reform candidate Sarah Morris looks popular amongst voters there, as does Vix Lowthion for the Greens.

The total turnout figure of 61.38% across the entire island is down from the 2019 turnout of 65.9%.

But the question remains for all the candidates - who will get the slam dunk?

Liz Jarvis has been talking following her win in Eastleigh, taking the seat for the Lib Dems.

"It's a huge night for our party - I’m thrilled to be one of the Lib Dem MPs going into the new parliament.

"We worked really really hard to win it - I’m grateful to everyone who voted for me.

The crisis in our NHS and social care system is something that kept coming up on the doorsteps. You can't fix the NHS without fixing the social care system."
