This was a very crowded category, but the two frontrunners made it in no problem – Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez) and Ariana Grande (Wicked).

They were joined by Felicity Jones (The Brutalist) and Isabella Rossellini, who gets in despite having less than 10 minutes of screen time in Conclave.

Monica Barbaro was less of a dead-cert, but her portrayal of Joan Baez in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown clinched the fifth spot.

Her performance clearly connected with voters - many of whom were said to have been impressed with her musical as well as acting talent.

The big misses here are Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson), Jamie Lee Curtis (The Last Showgirl) and Margaret Qualley (The Substance).

And singer Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez) ultimately wasn’t as strong in this category as her co-star, despite nominations earlier in awards season.

The best supporting actor category played out pretty much as expected, with nominations for Succession stars Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain) and Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice).

The category is rounded out by Yura Borisov (Anora), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown) and Guy Pearce (The Brutalist).

There are no major snubs or surprises here, although some fans of Sing Sing may be disappointed to see that Clarence Maclin couldn’t quite squeeze in despite scoring a Bafta nomination last week.

Culkin is the clear favourite to win this category, following wins at tother ceremonies including the Golden Globes earlier this month.
