    Herefordshire Council said it would have teams out today assessing damage to roads and assessing what repairs needed to be carried out.

    More than a dozen roads affected by flood water were closed in the county on Sunday including a stretch of the A438 and part of Leintwardine High Street.

    Multiple flood warnings are in place across the region, with 26 currently across Worcestershire, external and 12 across Herefordshire, external.

    Five flood warnings are currently in place for Shropshire, external, the Environment Agency (EA) added.

    Flood warnings have been issued for parts of the following rivers following Storm Bert.

    • River Lugg
    • River Severn
    • River Teme
    • River Wye

    A number of schools in Herefordshire have been closed as a result of the flooding, according to Herefordshire council.

    Primary schools

    • Brockhampton Primary School – closed due to nearby roads being flooded.
    • Leominster Ivington CE Primary School – closed due to nearby roads being flooded.
    • Leominster Primary School – partially closed due to staff shortages because of road conditions, the school is closed for reception and year 3, all other year groups remain open.
    • Marden Primary Academy – closed due to flooding.
    • Orleton CE Primary School – closed due to localised flooding.
    • Pembridge CE Primary School – closed due to flooding.
    • Peterchurch Primary School – closed due to flood-related road closures.
    • St Mary's CE Primary School, Credenhill - closed due to flood-related road closures and associated staff shortages. Online work will be available to pupils via the school website.
    • Sutton Primary Academy – closed due to roads in and out of Sutton flooding overnight.
    • Wigmore School Primary – closed due to extensive flooding and road closures.

    Secondary schools

    • Fairfield High School – closed due to road closures in and around Peterchurch, and the withdrawal of some bus services.
    • Hereford Academy – partially closed, due to staffing issues as a result of flooding, the school is closed for years 8, 9 and 10. Students are expected to access work online.
    • Wigmore School – closed due to extensive flooding and road closures. Lessons will move online to Microsoft Teams. The year 11 mock exams scheduled for today will be rescheduled.

    Special schools

    • Westfield School – closed due to flooding on routes used by staff and pupils.
  5. Long-term flood defence plan could cost £30mpublished at 09:26 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November

    The long-term plan for a flood defence scheme in Tenbury Wells could cost as much as £30m, according to Environment Agency (EA) bosses.

    Marc Lidderth, West Midlands director for the EA said the organisation had been looking at the options available for a scheme to better protect the community.

    "Those costs have risen, unfortunately, because of the complexity of the historic and heritage nature of the town," he said.

    There was currently insufficient funding available to make the scheme viable, he added.

    As usual when the water rises, Shropshire Council has closed the car parks in Frankwell, Shrewsbury, both because of the direct impact of flooding, and the need to erect barriers there.

    A widely shared video from Tenbury Wells showed a tractor driving through the town centre, causing waves against shop windows.

    Louise Preston, who owns pottery shop Pitter Potter in Tenbury, said the store's front window was smashed by the water when the tractor drove past.

    Marc Lidderth, Environment Agency (EA) director for the West Midlands, said flood barriers were being put up around the region, and urged people to sign up to the EA's flood warning service.

    The Fox Inn, in Bransford, Worcester is one of the businesses affected by flood water.

    Posting photographs on Facebook, external, the management team said the pub and restaurant would remain closed "until we understand the damage and how long it will take to repair".

    Storm Bert has thrown its worst at Ludlow Racecourse - but racing still astonishingly goes ahead today, external despite all the storm damage in south Shropshire and North Herefordshire.

    The track took 30mm of rain over the course of the weekend but a “dry, breezy race day” is expected.

    Several schools near Tenbury Wells have been closed, after flood waters ran through the town yesterday.

    Tenbury High Ormiston Academy, which served as a relief centre on Sunday for people affected by flooding, is among them. A statement from the school said the damage caused to the town had been "devastating".

    Nearby Lindridge St Lawrence’s CE Primary School also said it would be shut, and Burford primary on the Shropshire side of the border.

    In Herefordshire, St Mary’s CE Primary School in Credenhill, Westfield School in Leominster and Orleton Primary School all confirmed they would be closed.
