Within the span of just over 10 minutes we saw the first all-female crew since 1963 take off, enter space, and then land back in Texas.

Katy Perry and Gayle King kissed the ground as they were let out of the capsule by Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos.

As some Kardashians, Oprah Winfrey, a group of female astronauts and loved ones watched the rocket take off, cheers soared and there was "not a dry eye" when the crew landed back safely.

On their return, we heard from each of the six women who embarked on the brief journey over the so-called Karman line, the internationally recognised altitude for where space begins:

Gayle King said she just wanted to take a moment to "appreciate the ground".

Lauren Sánchez said there was a feeling of camaraderie between the women, adding: "I'm so proud of this crew".

Amanda Nguyen, a civil rights activist, said before the mission she had promised herself never to give up. "I'm so grateful," she added.

Kerianne Flynn said her son's friends had told him that mums “don't go to space,” on landing back on Earth she said: "This mum went to space."

Aisha Bowe said "I will never be the same", adding that there was an "energy" in the capsule as the group of women shared a moment while in space.

Katy Perry said going to space "comes second to being a mum" and teases the potential of a new song based on her experience.

Back down on Earth, we will continue to bring you the latest updates - stay with us.

Katy Perry says she feels "super connected to life" and "so connected to love" after landing back on Earth.

We know that the pop star sang a rendition of Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World while in the capsule.

When asked about the importance of her song choice, she said it was "about a collective energy, making space for future women, it's about wonderful world we see out there".

Her daughter, Daisy, was there to see her take part in the mission and was heard saying "mummy, mummy" as she went up.

The singer says the experience came "second to being a mum", which is also why it was a hard decision to take the mission on.

She is told her 92-year-old grandfather, who was watching from the ground, was worried about her but mentioned that Oprah had given him a reassuring squeeze.
