Israeli attacks on Gaza City continued overnight and into Monday, according to Gaza’s Civil Defense.

Spokesman Mahmoud Basal told the BBC that 24 Palestinians were killed in the latest 24 hours and bombardment has not stopped.

He added "no aid trucks have been allowed into Gaza City since the offensive began four weeks ago".

"There are still bodies we cannot retrieve from areas under Israeli control," he said.

Locals say from 21:30 local time on Sunday (19:30 BST) until dawn, Israeli artillery and air strikes hit several parts of the city. Shelling focused on the southern and western parts industrial zone, and university area, followed by heavy fire in Tel al-Hawa.

Later, air raids struck al-Tuffah and the public security compound.

In the early hours, warplanes hit Tel al-Hawa, Beach Camp, and al-Jalaa, while artillery targeted al-Nasr Street near Hamid Roundabout and al-Shifa hospital.

Witnesses reported explosive boxes dropped over residential areas in al-Nafaq and al-Jalaa. Basal said Tel al-Hawa, al-Jalaa, and al-Nasr Street were among the most heavily bombarded zones overnight.

A week after Donald Trump announced his 20-point Gaza peace plan in the White House, indirect talks between Hamas and Israel are set to begin today in Egypt.

Negotiators for each side will be in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, alongside US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

In a statement on Friday, Hamas provisionally agreed to release all the remaining Israeli hostages, including around 20 who are believed to be alive.

However, Hamas also said it wanted further negotiations on other parts of Trump's plan.
