Police in Cyprus say a man has been arrested on suspicion of terror-related offences and espionage.
They say he appeared before a district court on Saturday which ordered him detained for eight days pending ongoing inquiries. Police said they would not say more for reasons of national security.
However Reuters quoted several Cypriot news outlets as saying the suspect had been arrested in the Zakaki suburb of the coastal city of Limassol.
Cyprus's ANT1 news agency reported that he was believed to be carrying out surveillance of the British RAF Akrotiri air base as well as the Cypriot Andreas Papandreou Air Base in the western region of Paphos since mid-April.
