    James Pearson
    Political reporter, Hereford & Worcester

Before this election, Herefordshire and Worcestershire was a sea of blue, with eight Conservative constituencies. But these results have shattered that.

The biggest single result is in North Herefordshire, where the Green Party's Ellie Chowns has achieved a historic result, possibly the most astonishing in Herefordshire and Worcestershire's political history.

In 2019 she finished fourth. Now she is the Midlands' first Green MP with a majority of 5,894, overturning a Conservative majority of almost 25,000.

Labour have made key gains in two battleground seats, Redditch and Worcester.

Crunch the numbers and it's a story of the Conservative vote collapsing.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire's five remaining Conservative MPs all have significantly reduced majorities, while Reform UK candidates hoovering up tens of thousands of votes in total.

"I'm pleased that we've kept Labour's majority down to the same sort of ballpark that it's always been in Worcester. It remains a swing constituency... my party and hopefully myself will hopefully be back at the next election."

    Mark Bayliss

Mr Bayliss believes there are "a whole range of issues" to explain his party's struggles.

He said: "We've been in power for 14 years and that is always difficult... where the public just want a change, you've done all the good you're going to do and they decide they'd like to see the other main party in power for a while."
