Two children, aged eight and 10, have been killed and 17 others are injured following a school shooting in Minneapolis, police say
The attack happened at Annunciation Catholic School during morning Mass, Police Chief Brian O'Hara says, calling it a "deliberate act of violence against children and worshippers"
The gunman was armed with a rifle, shotgun and pistol and shot through the church windows, police say, adding that he then turned a gun on himself
Of those injured, 14 are children, and two are in a critical condition
"Don't say this is about thoughts and prayers - these kids were literally praying," Mayor Jacob Frey says during an emotional news conference

O'Hara says that while the gunman was firing from outside the building, he may have gone inside, but no casings have been found inside yet.
He adds that "if not all", then most of the shooting happened outside.
He also says the number of rounds appears to be "in the dozens" and that they think the gunman had used all three weapons - a rifle, shotgun and pistol.
Chief O'Hara says a vehicle believed to be the suspect's has been found in the church car park.
It's now being searched, and he says police will be carrying out other searches.
He says "the shooter approached on one side of the church building," on a side with at least two doors.
In response to a question about explosives, O'Hara says there are "no explosives or improvised devices that we found."
However, police found what he described as a "smoke bomb, like not an explosive, but a sort of a firework" that would generate smoke.
Police chief O'Hara is taking questions now.
The first question is about the gunman.
He says police believe the gunman was in his "early-20s" and acted alone.
"We believe he is deceased," he adds, saying the gunman did not have an "extensive known criminal history".
O'Hara says police are looking through information left behind to try and determine a motive.
Police chief Brian O'Hara says the gunman "ultimately took his own life".
He adds, "our hearts are broken for the families who have lost their children", for the young lives "fighting to recover" and for "the entire community that has been so deeply traumatised by this senseless attack".
O'Hara goes on to say the gunman was carrying three weapons - a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol.
He describes shooting into a church full of children as "sheer cruelty and cowardice".
"Two young children, aged eight and 10, were killed where they sat in the pews," O'Hara says. "Their parents have been notified."
He adds that 17 other people were injured - 14 of them children.
Two of those children are in critical condition, he says.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara is speaking now and says the city has experienced an "unspeakable tragedy".
He says police responded to the scene just before 08:30 local time (13:30 BST) at Annunciation Church.
He adds that it was a worship service for the children's first week of school.
"During the mass a gunman approached from the outside of the building," he explains, saying the attacker began firing from the church windows.
"He struck children and worshippers that were inside the building," he says.
The mayor says he is "so deeply saddened" and sorry to all the families affected.
He asks people to stand by them and love them, adding, "we need to do everything possible to support them through this time".
He also says a family resource centre has been set up to help them.
“These were Minneapolis families. These were American families, and the amount of pain they are suffering right now is extraordinary,” Frey says.
Frey, a Democrat, makes a pointed reference to a typical political response to mass shootings.
“Don’t just say this is about ‘thoughts and prayers’ right now. These kids were literally praying,” Frey says. “It was the first week of school, they were in a church.”
The briefing has started.
"There are no words that can capture the horror," Mayor Jacob Frey says.
Some new pictures have come in from outside the school.
A police cordon remains in place all around the school premises, which - as we showed you a little earlier - is right next to Annunciation Catholic Church.
As we wait to hear more from police, here’s the latest:
