More people are expected to appear in court today to face charges in connection with the violent disorder over the past two weeks.

The court appearances follow days of violent disorder in towns and cities across the UK that began after three young girls were killed in a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport on 29 July.

Hotels housing asylum seekers were attacked and shops were looted in the unrest, which was triggered by false information that the murder suspect was a Muslim asylum seeker.

On Friday the first sentences for content posted on social media were also handed down, with at least three people jailed.
