  1. 'We're all going to lose', SNP candidate tells mepublished at 02:45 British Summer Time 5 July

    Georgia Roberts
Reporting from Motherwell, Wishaw and Carluke

Here in North Lanarkshire, where the SNP are defending four seats against Labour, an SNP candidate has just told me: "I’m going to lose. We’re all going to lose."

Many of the SNP crowd here are effectively conceding all four seats despite the fact we’re still a while away from the first result.

Whilst Cumbernauld may be the closest, they’re still expecting that to be a loss to Labour too.

Motherwell, I’m told, "won’t even be close" - particularly with an unexpectedly strong Reform vote.

  2. Liberal Democrats hold Kingston and Surbitonpublished at 02:43 British Summer Time 5 July

In the first announcement of a party leader's seat, Sir Ed Davey is re-elected for the Lib Dems.

This is the first Scottish seat that's been announced tonight.

The exit poll predicts the SNP will fall to 10 seats - down from 48 in 2019.

  6. George Galloway loses Rochdale to Labourpublished at 02:39 British Summer Time 5 July

Graphic showing Labour holds Rochdale. The winning candidate was Paul Waugh.

Workers Party for Britain leader George Galloway has lost to Labour in Rochdale, after winning the seat at a March by-election.

Former political journalist Paul Waugh wins for Labour.

Just a note - this result is still described as a Labour hold because it's compared to the result at the last election in 2019.

  7. Truss 'under pressure' in Norfolkpublished at 02:37 British Summer Time 5 July

I'm here at the count for former prime minister Liz Truss's seat in South West Norfolk.

She's under pressure from a number of different directions - including Labour, Reform and an ex-Conservative standing as an independent.

Truss was the prime minister less than two years ago. Yet here we are in a sports hall in Kings Lynn and absolutely no one that we've spoken to involved in the count of South West Norfolk, or observing the count in South West Norfolk, is certain which way this is going to go.

  9. Labour gains Wrexham from the Conservativespublished at 02:35 British Summer Time 5 July

Sarah Atherton - who was part of Boris Johnson's swathe of Tory MPs elected in 2019 - loses her seat to Labour's Andrew Ranger.

  10. Reform wins Ashfield with 43% of votepublished at 02:33 British Summer Time 5 July

    Professor Sir John Curtice
    Polling expert

In Ashfield, the exit poll had the Conservative vote down by 25 points, the Lib Dems up by one, and Reform up 18.

In reality, Lee Anderson for Reform has won with 43% of the vote.

This is one that we were not anticipating in the poll.

Bar chart showing the results for Ashfield with vote share for parties getting more than 1% of the vote: Reform UK 42.8% up 38 points, Labour 29% up 3 points, Ashfield Ind 15.7% down 11 points, Conservative 8.2% down 31 points, Green 2.8% up 2 points, Lib Dem 1.6% down 1 points
  11. Speaker Lindsay Hoyle holds Chorleypublished at 02:33 British Summer Time 5 July

The results for Chorley have just come in with Labour keeping a solid majority - so why aren't we describing it as a Labour hold?

    It's because it's Speaker Lindsay Hoyle's seat.

The role of the Speaker is politically impartial, so incoming Speakers resign from their political party when they are appointed, but can still undertake work on behalf of their constituents.

The main parties do not usually field candidates against the Speaker at general elections held during their term in office.

Lee Anderson picks up first Reform UK seat

Reform UK's Lee Anderson, who has just won Ashfield (where he was formerly the Tory MP before he defected to Reform UK), calls the constituency the "capital of common sense" in his victory speech.

He says "this wonderful place that I call my home" will have a "massive say" in how the country is shaped, adding: "I want my country back and Ashfield can play their part in that".

While at Clacton Leisure Centre, where the counting’s under way, Nigel Farage has been at a restaurant in the town with supporters from the local area.

We’re told the invite-only event was to "thank" the people of Clacton.

Though the official declaration’s not expected until about 03:30 BST, there’s a growing sense that the Reform UK leader is highly likely to win a seat at Westminster on his eighth attempt and become the town’s next MP.

He’s already released a video on social media saying "the revolt against the establishment is under way" based on the results that have come in so far.

At this early stage it seems the party’s performance could prove to be one of the stories of this campaign.

  17. Labour gains Redcar from the Conservativespublished at 02:24 British Summer Time 5 July

Redcar was one of the previously rock-solid Labour constituencies that Boris Johnson's Conservative Party won back in 2019. That's changed again as Anna Turley wins the seat back for Labour.
