  1. UK to increase long-range missile deliveries to Ukrainepublished at 09:42 BST 24 October

Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to urge fellow coalition of the willing countries to provide Ukraine with more long-range missiles after a successful attack on Russia earlier this week.

The prime minister is set to announce the delivery of an extra 140 air defence missiles to Ukraine this winter, as part of an increase in the UK missile-building programme.

This announcement is part of a £1.6bn deal signed between UK industry and Ukraine in March.

On Wednesday, Ukraine used UK-supplied long-range weapons - called Storm Shadow missiles - to strike a Russian chemical plant in Bryansk, Russia.

Ukraine's general staff of the armed forces called it a "successful hit" that penetrated the Russian air defence system.

The coalition of the willing was formed by the leaders of the UK and France in March. It now includes about 30 countries.

The group's focus is Ukraine's security. It last met in August - virtually - to discuss the "reassurance force" that would go in to Ukraine if hostilities end, aiming to deter future Russian aggression.

While the group has pledged to protect peace in Ukraine once it is achieved, there is a range of views on how best to do this.

Countries like the UK have said they would be ready to provide troops to secure Ukraine's border in the event of a ceasefire.

Other members have not promised a military presence on the ground, but have offered arms and logistical support.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is in London today for a meeting of the coalition of the willing - a group of countries that have pledged to protect peace in Ukraine if a ceasefire agreement is reached.

Alongside Zelensky, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is hosting Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof - with France's President Emmanuel Macron joining virtually.

The leaders are expected to discuss ways to increase pressure on Moscow through sanctions, as well as strengthening Ukraine's defences using frozen Russian assets.

Following an attack on a Russian chemical plant using British-supplied weapons this week, an increase in the provision of long-range weapons for Ukraine is also being considered.
