  6. Emotional day as couple make third promise in 62 yearspublished at 13:40 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February

It has been an especially emotional day for one of our couples, Jean and Alan Taylor.

Jean, in tears, described how her husband has had cancer for the past two years and “every day is a bonus”.

In March, the couple will have been married for 62 years and this was the third time the pair had made their promises to each other.

Their first was at the parish church in Leamington Spa in 1963 on Jean’s 19th birthday.

They remembered how they faced a few setbacks when they got married including being left without a vicar - with Jean told to wait with her bridesmaids while the verger went to find him.

It turned out he had got the day wrong - then the reception made the same mistake!

When they made their second promise, they went back to the same church for their golden wedding anniversary but it was winter and they walked from the service to their reception in the snow.

“I didn’t know you wanted another white wedding,” Jean’s uncle had joked.

Now after their third promise to each other, the couple, from Warwick, said it was “lovely”.

“Everyone’s been so nice and friendly,” Jean said.

  7. Smile! - Families take photos in cathedralpublished at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February

After the ceremony, it was time for everyone to take pictures and relax.

A floral arch, which formed part of Pixie Lott's stage, was chosen as the backdrop for many of the pictures.

Couple gathered with their families for a snap and it was also in front of the famous tapestry of Christ in Coventry Cathedral.

Gemma and Andrew Standen with their bulldog Honey

Let us pick up events now with Gemma and Andrew Standen - and of course Honey, their bulldog who has turned out to be one of the main attractions today.

Andrew said it was “lovely to bring her” and Gemma said it was their main motivation.

“We couldn’t have her in Greece when we went and got married," she said.

The pooch, who was given her own pink rose to wear on her collar, was about to jump out of her buggy during the event - described by Gemma as “a massive distraction”.

“I think she needed to go outside,” she said, “but she’s been amazing all day, I think she enjoyed it as well.”

“She’s been the centre of attention,” Andrew said. “It was nice for her to see us get married, even though I suppose it’s a renewal, but it still feels like we got married again, so it’s been lovely.”

  9. Zombie groom says celebration was amazingpublished at 13:08 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February

Gavin Hobbins, who was a Zombie groom at his first wedding, said it was "amazing" to renew his commitment to his wife Kelly.

The pair decided to combine their original wedding day with a Halloween party - so decided to celebrate their love in a more traditional setting this time.

It's been absolutely amazing to be in such a beautiful building," Kelly said.

"What better surrounding to do it in than here."

  10. Couples wiping away tears in very personal momentspublished at 12:57 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February

A couple takes part in the affirmation of love

This was a mass event, but when the couples stood to reaffirm their promises to each other it was a very personal moment.

I saw one couple grab each other’s hands and there were several wiping away tears.

For each of them, the words "I choose you again" represented years of life lived together, obstacles overcome - and daily decisions to stay committed to their marriage vows.

  11. Take your chance ladies - one woman told us how she proposedpublished at 12:47 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February

Among the nearly 80 couples in our audience, we have been hearing about their stories - in this case, from Michelle Bird who has been together with her other half Adam since she was 16.

One day, they went to her nephew’s christening, when she turned and said to him: “Will you marry me?”

Two years later, the pair were married - 30 years later, they are celebrating their marriage and three wonderful children, Michelle said.

It is proof, we think, that women should not be shy about popping the question.

So ladies, shoot your shots! You never know what can happen.

  12. Favourite Valentine's Day so far - Pixie Lottpublished at 12:37 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February

After her performance, Pixie Lott said it felt like there was "so much love in the air" and to be a small part of today was very special.

"I've never done anything like this before, it's very unique," she said.

"I feel bad saying this because of my husband Oliver - we do have lovely Valentine's Days as well - but this is like my favourite one so far."

It felt like "a very monumental day", she added.

Pixie said the energy in the cathedral while the event was taking place was "so beautiful" and the setting was "stunning".

Coventry Cathedral was given a proper makeover for the event with chairs set out to allow for each couple to simultaneously renew their commitment to each other.

Guests were also treated to a surprise appearance from pop star Pixie Lott as well as a reading from actor Yasmin Wilde.

    • Marc Liver emailed us about his wife Laura who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2016 and has had extensive treatment: "Through it all she has shown incredible strength, positivity and bravery and I am awed every day at how incredible she is. She has even raised over £5,000 for brain tumour research charities! I just want to let the world know how much I love and cherish every day with her, and I also want the world to know how amazing she is!"

The audience loved it again, enjoying the performance after that intense moment when they declared their commitment to each other anew.

Pixie came down from the chancel steps near the altar to perform in the main area of the nave.

A row of couples sat in front of a number of multi-coloured windows at Coventry Cathedral

The couples have now turned to face each other and reaffirmed their love.

They repeated the following words to each other:

"Today, I choose you again, as I did then, as I will always. I promise to keep building with you, to listen, to laugh, to stand beside you.

To honour the love we have made, to cherish the life we are creating.

Time may leave its marks upon us, but it cannot wear away the truth: You are my beloved, my partner, my gift.

And with all that I am, I promise— again and always—to be yours.

    We Still Do!"

Pixie Lott has taken to the chancel steps in our surprise event.

She performed Coldplay's All My Love in the grand setting of the cathedral for our couples.

    And the audience loved it.

There was a round of applause before the celebration moved on to the affirmation with the couples on their feet.

  19. Reverend leads cathedral in prayerpublished at 11:36 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February

The Reverend Canon Nitano Muller led the cathedral in prayer during today's ceremony.

His prayer ended with these words:

"As Coventry itself rose from the ashes, so may your love in our lives be renewed today— not as echoes of the past, but as songs for the future, singing of love that endures, faith that restores, and the promise that, in You, all things are made new.

With hearts full of gratitude, we offer this prayer. Amen."

  20. Actress Yasmin Wilde performs wedding poempublished at 11:33 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February

Actress Yasmin Wilde has read I Will be Here, a poem by Steven Curtis Chapman.

Apparently Chapman never thought it would become a wedding song but it became a favourite the world over and it is used for readings.

It is about being there for the person you love through the changing days, seasons and years.
