  1. Lightning, strong winds, more tornadoes: Severe weather forecast for parts of USpublished at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March

    More severe weather has been forecast for parts of the southeast through to Sunday morning, after deadly tornadoes tore through multiple states.

    According to the National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center, external (WPC) "severe thunderstorms" could bring lightning, strong wind gusts, hail and more tornadoes.

    There is an "additional threat" of "significant" intensity and "incredible" intensity, capable of causing extreme damage, tornadoes over the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys, the Central Gulf Coast and the Southeast, the WPC adds.

    Over the last hour, around a dozen tornado warnings have been issued in Missouri, including:

    • A "large and extremely dangerous" tornado seven miles west of Tylertown moving at 50mph a few minutes ago
    • At 12.36 CDT (17.36 GMT) a tornado was sighted near Okolona moving north-east at 40mph
    • Another was seen near D'Lo moving in the same direction at 50mph a few minutes earlier
    • At 12.33 CDT (17.33 GMT) a tornado moving at 50mph near the town of Macomb was spotted - residents were told it was a "particularly dangerous situation" and to take cover

    Several more tornado warnings, as well as warnings for other extreme weather like flash flooding, have been put in place by the National Weather Service, external.

    As we've been reporting, a number of deaths have occurred following severe weather in parts of the US.

    In Missouri, officials have confirmed 11 deaths so far as Ozark, Butler, Wayne and Jefferson counties.

    In the aftermath of the tornadoes, officials in parts of central and southern US have been issuing statements on the death toll for their respective states.

    Here are the latest figures:

    • Arkansas Division of Emergency Management has reported three deaths and 29 injuries, underlining the numbers are "preliminary"
    • Missouri State Highway Patrol has confirmed 11 deaths across the counties of Ozark, Butler, Wayne and Jefferson
    • Oklahoma's governor has reported on one death on the road, according to our US partner CBS News
    • Texas has reported three deaths in car crashes during a dust storm in Amarillo County, CBS reports citing the state's department of public safety

    At least 18 people have died after tornadoes tore through southern and central parts of the US, the BBC's US partner CBS reports.

    The US states of Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma have all reported fatalities as a result of the severe weather.

    More severe weather is forecast for many of these areas on Saturday, with tornado watches issued in central Mississippi, eastern Louisiana and western Tennessee.
