    UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson was shot in the chest just before 7:00 EST outside a Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan, police say.

    The 50-year-old was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Thompson was there for the company's investor day.

    Police say a suspect was waiting for Thompson outside and fled the scene wearing a ski mask, he is still at large. Police say it appeared to be a targeted attack.

    Police are scheduled to hold a news conference at 11:30 EST (16:30 GMT) to provide more information.
