Trump voices that both him and First Lady Melania Trump are thankful for the state visit, and grateful "beyond words" for the hospitality shown at Chequers and at Windsor Castle.

The UK and the US have done "more good on this planet than any two nations in human history", Trump says, adding that they have been friends and "will always be friends".

This connection, Trump adds, is why the UK was the first country with which the US made a "historic trade deal".

    • As a reminder, the UK and US signed a trade deal in June that reduced tariffs on car and aerospace imports to the US, but failed to agree on terms for British steel, leaving tariffs on it at 25%.

The pair joke together, as Trump calls Starmer a "great negotiator".

  2. Trump says King and Queen 'two fantastic people'published at 15:25 BST 18 September

In his opening comments, Donald Trump says he is grateful for the hospitality he's received, and says Chequers is "quite the place".

He says King Charles and Queen Camilla are "two fantastic people".

Starmer notes that next year will be the 250th anniversary of the signing of the US Declaration of Independence in 1776, and that the two countries have "come on a long journey together" since then.

He says it is "no exaggeration to say the partnership our two nations have built have shaped the world".

"Time and time again, it is British and American men and women, side-by-side, changing the path of history," Starmer says, adding that it is "not just about history, about the future".

The UK prime minister then hands over to Trump.

  4. Starmer says pressure needed on Putin over war in Ukrainepublished at 15:21 BST 18 September

On the war in Ukraine, Starmer says Russian President Vladimir Putin has shown his true face, with the world seeing "yet more bloodshed".

Putin’s actions are not the actions of someone who wants peace, the prime minister says, adding that more pressure is needed on the Russian leader.

Starmer adds that Trump will support reaching a peace deal.

  5. Leaders working together to bring peace for Israelis and Palestinians, Starmer sayspublished at 15:19 BST 18 September

Starmer says that while the UK and US "shape this bond for a new era, the fundamentals have not changed".

He says that security remains the cornerstone of the two countries' special relationship.

"Now, as we drive up defence spending, we're going to sweep away the barriers to working together on new defence technology," he says.

Starmer says the two countries are united in defence and security, but also in the "pursuit of peace".

He adds that they are working together to end the humanitarian catastrophe in the Middle East, and ultimately bring peace for Israelis and Palestinians.

  6. Partnership 'has the power to change lives', says Starmerpublished at 15:15 BST 18 September

The prime minister says the technology partnership agreed between the two countries "has the power to change lives".

Starmer says the investment will make us "richer and freer," and that it's a signal of the US and UK's determination to win this race together.

"We're bringing businesses with us," he adds, saying that business has responded with new deals and investments.

  7. Starmer says countries 'ready to define this century together'published at 15:13 BST 18 September

Starmer is speaking first. He says it's a pleasure to welcome Trump to Chequers to celebrate the "unique bond" between the UK and US.

"Today we've gone far beyond that," he says, with their new agreement "confirming our status as the first partners in science and technology, ready to define this century together, just as we did the last".

  15. Two leaders likely to face very different questions at press conferencepublished at 14:27 BST 18 September

    Sarah Smith
North America editor, reporting from Chequers

As well as those remarks to business leaders around 45 minutes ago, Trump and Starmer are scheduled to hold a joint press conference shortly.

The prime minister and the president are likely to face very different questions from the assembled US and UK journalists.

Brits are expected to ask about trade deals and tariffs, as well as Sir Keir’s plan to recognise the State of Palestine. Other questions could cover the Trump administration’s criticism of a perceived lack of free speech in the UK, and possibly the abrupt sacking of Peter Mandelson as the British ambassador to Washington.

The US journalists, meanwhile, are preparing to quiz Trump on a much wider range of topics – from Ukraine, to China, to lower interest rates in America. This is their opportunity to ask the president about any pressing topics without caring whether it relates to the UK or its relationship with the US.

What’s the biggest issue American reporters are most keen to get an answer on?

They really want to ask the president how he feels about the late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel being taken off the air for remarks he made about the reaction to the death of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.

Spoiler alert - Trump has already posted on social media saying the comedian’s suspension is “Great News for America”.

  16. Tech bosses watch on as UK-US deal gets TV momentpublished at 14:20 BST 18 September

As we've been reporting, Keir Starmer and Donald Trump have just signed a major tech deal, which will see Microsoft, Google and others pledging billions of pounds to the UK economy.

This deal was announced a couple of days ago, to coincide with the state visit.

It's separate to the £150bn announced overnight, and arguably more significant, according to our business editor Simon Jack.

The tech deal got its big TV moment today, though.

Under the cover of a tent at rainy Chequers, the leaders signed in unison two sets of documents and held them up for the cameras.

Watching on were several big beasts of the business world, including the chief executives of Nvidia, Microsoft, Rolls-Royce, Boeing, BAE Systems, GlaxoSmithKline, Alphabet, BlackRock and Citi Group - some of whom also got the coveted invite to last night's state banquet.

  17. What's in this new tech deal?published at 14:16 BST 18 September

Trump and Starmer have just officially signed what has been dubbed the "Tech Prosperity Deal", which will see the UK and US co-operate in areas including artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing and nuclear power.

Alongside that, a number of top American tech companies have announced they'll be making investments in the UK.

Microsoft is the biggest single investor, announcing a $30bn (£22bn) spending package - its largest ever outside the US.

Google has promised £5bn for AI research and infrastructure over the next two years, while computer chips company Nvidia announced £500m towards building more data centres to help operate AI in Britain.

Tech leaders including Nvidia's Jensen Huang, OpenAI boss Sam Altman, and Microsoft's Satya Nadella accompanied Trump to the state banquet at Windsor Castle last night.

  18. Tech investment a 'goldilocks moment' for the UK, AI chief tells BBCpublished at 14:08 BST 18 September

Jensen Huang speaking to Gary O'Donoghue at Chequers

The head of artificial intelligence giant Nvidia says it's a "goldilocks moment" for the UK, with the US tech company's plans for developing AI infrastructure in Britain.

Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang is currently at Chequers, where Donald Trump and Keir Starmer have just addressed business leaders.

Speaking to the BBC's Gary O'Donoghue a little earlier, Huang says that Nvidia is partnering with UK AI infrastructure company Nscale and American IT company CoreWeave to build an "£11bn supercomputer here in the UK".

He says it's going to be the largest AI infrastructure in all of Europe.

Huang adds that he believes the UK is home to some of the best researchers and universities, and has a "really vibrant AI start-up ecosystem".

"It just needs infrastructure," he adds.

The Nvidia president tells the BBC that Starmer "really understood" that the UK needs this AI infrastructure for "technology to be invented here, opportunity to be created here, and all the revenue generation to be circling here".
