    “Richard, Ricky, the Hitman, Richard John Hatton MBE, the people’s champion, was loved and is loved, and that love is everlasting,” she says.

    Sky Sports boxing commentator Adam Smith was also in tears as he gave a eulogy.

    There were smiles from those listening outside as he joked Hatton was “once upon a time not good enough to play for his beloved Man City” before adding that he was “an absolutely shocking carpet fitter”.

    He said he was a “fantastic fighter” and his “popularity eclipsed everything”.

    Smith’s voice wavered with emotion as he described how Hatton took his losses extremely hard, because he felt he would “let you all down, which I find heartbreaking”.

    “I will forever love him, his fights, his friendship, his fun, his adoration of life. What a ride it was," he said.

    "There is, there was and only ever will be one Ricky Hatton.”

    The crowd applauded as the speech ends.

    Campbell Hatton fought back tears as he said: “Never has a father and son had so much in common.”

    He said he “looked up to my dad in every aspect of life. All of that was fuelled by the love I had and always with have for him.

    "I can’t explain how much I’m going to miss you dad. I can’t believe we’re not going to make any new memories together.

    "But the ones I have I will treasure forever.”

    The voices of Hatton’s children, Millie, Fearne and Campbell, are echoing around the streets as their tributes are played on the loudspeakers outside the cathedral.

    “We shared an undeniable bond,” an emotional Campbell says before joking most of the stories he could tell aren’t suitable for today.

    Fearne speaks of the times they enjoyed at the bowling alley and saving up tickets to buy a prize.

    Hatton’s mum, Carol, says he was “born by forceps, which resulted in him having two black eyes, and people saying he resembled a boxer.”

    Hatton famously was an easy bruiser, especially around the eyes throughout his boxing career.

    Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has also taken time out of his tour schedule to attend.

    Posting on X at the time of his death, he said he was "absolutely devastated" to hear of Hatton’s death.

    "It was an absolute honour to know him and carry his belts RIP CHAMP LIVE FOREVER LG x," he said.

    Former world heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno has arrived.

    The boxing legend has previously told how his life had been enriched by his friendship with Hatton.

    He said: "There will never be another Ricky or anyone like him and at this time I share the shock and upset of losing what I consider to be a great fighter, a friend and an amazing human being."

    There’s a big queue here now outside the main entrance to the cathedral, where mourners are dressed in both black and blue.

    Ricky Hatton’s fights were regularly soundtracked by a brass band, which followed him loyally around the globe - and they're here again today.

    There was a sombre mood at the back of the cathedral as guests patiently queued to get in but the band has just lightened the mood with a rendition of the famous “there’s only one Ricky Hatton” tune.

    Heavyweight stalwart Tyson Fury is among the early guests arriving at Manchester Cathedral, where the service will begin in about 50 minutes.

    Fury has spoken previously about how Hatton helped him with his own mental health struggles.

    The former champion was seen speaking to actor Tamer Hassan, who arrived earlier alongside Dean Gaffney and Callum Best.

    In a city divided by the blue of Manchester City and the red of Manchester United, Ricky Hatton was a man to bring the two tribes together.

    There is no shortage of sky blue and red on show today - and even a couple of people sporting Liverpool shirts - as fans of both clubs have come out in large numbers to pay their respects.

    Olympic boxing silver medallist Amir Khan has arrived at Manchester Cathedral ahead of the service.

    Khan, who flew in from Dubai for the funeral and was a good friend of Hatton's, said he "needed to be here to show his respects".

    Matthew Macklin is among the first from the boxing world to arrive at the Cathedral.

    The three-time middleweight title challenger came through the ranks alongside Ricky Hatton and trained with him at Billy Graham’s gym.

    They also both fought on the same cards at the MEN Arena - now known as the AO Arena - in 2002 and 2004.

    Former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew has also arrived.

    Bellew paid tribute to Ricky Hatton when the news broke of his death last month, saying “heaven has gained an angel with boxing gloves”.
