    Train services are being cancelled , externalin Devon following heavy snow.

    Great Western Railway says the line between Crediton and Okehampton is blocked.

    It says services between Exeter St Davids and Okehampton via Crediton will be cancelled.

    Disruption is expected until 10:45 GMT on Thursday.

    National Highways, external said in a post on X several incidents had been reported on the A30 across Devon and Cornwall after snowfall.

    It has advised motorists to consider using the A38.

    Robert Roderick from Newquay is a passenger in a car on the A30 heading towards Bristol.

    “From Bodmin onwards it’s very thick snow, all around temple the lorries were sliding on the hill," he said.

    “When we left Newquay the temperature was about four degrees and when we hit Bodmin it dropped.

    “There is probably a good three inches on the road.”

    Lorry driver Chris Lucas, 48, said he had been at a standstill for about an hour at Belstone Services near Okehampton.

    Speaking to BBC Radio Devon, Mr Lucas said: "We hit all the weather on the M5.

    "We turned on to the A30 and it just came out of nowhere.

    "It was absolutely hammering it down with snow. It has gradually got deeper and deeper."

    "When you say snow in Cornwall people say high ground, that is generally what we were going for yesterday," said Bee Tucker, BBC South West broadcast meterologist.

    She said: "We’ve had a lot of cold air that’s sat across us and we’ve had cold air undercutting the warm air as well.

    "This has meant that actually, we’ve had a lot more snow even down to lower levels than we thought."

    More than 20 schools across Cornwall have closed for the day after snow led to disruption.

    A yellow weather warning for snow was issued by the Met Office and came into force at 05:00 GMT and will remain active until 15:00.

    The Met Office said driving conditions could be dangerous and has urged motorists to allow "extra time".
