  5. Referendum 'will decide Scottish independence'published at 23:17 British Summer Time 9 May 2017

    Alex SalmondImage source, Getty Images

Scotland's former first minister Alex Salmond tells Newsnight that Scottish independence will not be decided through an election, it will be decided through a referendum.

He says the election will decide whether decisions about Scotland's future will remain in Scotland's hands and the future "not be dictated by Theresa May".

Mr Salmond says: "Unlike the rather presumptuous, vainglorious announcements from the Conservative Party about what they're going to win, the SNP has never taken a single seat or a single vote for granted - so we'll let the electorate decide."

  6. CPS decision expected on Wednesdaypublished at 22:55 British Summer Time 9 May 2017

  9. Labour to focus on ideas, not personalitypublished at 22:29 British Summer Time 9 May 2017

    Jeremy CorbynImage source, Getty Images

The BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg says today's official launch of Labour's election campaign revealed that the party's strategy is to make it about Jeremy Corbyn's ideas - not his image.

She says: "They know they need to get their policies across because of the controversy about his personality."

On Wednesday, Labour will campaign on education - when they are expected to announce plans to scrap fees for people who go on to further education in England.

She says that Labour will be challenged "again and again" on the policies, including how they will be costed.
