  2. Lunchtime updatepublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

The political parties are to resume some low-key local campaigning for the general election this afternoon. Tomorrow, national campaigns will resume after being suspended out of respect for those killed in the Manchester bomb attack.

UKIP was the exception and launched its election manifesto this morning, before the one minute silence for the victims of Manchester. Party leader Paul Nuttall said the decision to do so was a message to terrorists that they would not win.

  4. Home secretary accuses UKIP of political point-scoringpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    Mark Lobel
    BBC political reporter

The home secretary has welcomed a drop in net migration in 2016, describing it as a “good thing”.

Amber Rudd added: “We’re determined to make sure that we do continue to reduce the overall net migration number.”

She also criticised UKIP for suggesting Theresa May shared some of the blame for Tuesday’s attack in Manchester, calling it "entirely the wrong approach” and adding: “This is not a time for making political points.”

Asked if the net migration target should be zero - as UKIP want - Ms Rudd said:

    Quote Message

Well I don’t agree with that net target. And what I do think is that we’re making good progress on getting towards tens of thousands. We’re always going to do it in a way that protects our economy.

  12. UK must 'rethink policy' on intelligence sharing - Prescottpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    The Daily Politics

    Lord Prescott

Police investigating the Manchester Arena bomb attack have stopped sharing information with the US after leaks to the media, the BBC understands.

"What's so alarming about this is somebody made a decision just to print such horrific details about such a terrible incident," former Labour Deputy Prime Minister Lord Prescott tells the Daily Politics.

"What is the value of the sharing of intelligence?" he asks, adding that one of Theresa May's "policies is to improve the sharing of intelligence" with the US.

"The question now is whether you can trust Americans, to give them shared intelligence."

    Quote Message

    It's dramatic. It's a game-changer. We've got to rethink the whole policy."
