  1. May on the Brexit 'divorce bill'published at 21:59 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

David Davis says he will walk away at £100bn - has Theresa May got a figure in her head?

It's not a question of having a figure, she says, it's about "getting the right deal" but she would be "prepared to walk away".

She is not going to give a figure and repeats her mantra that "no deal is better than a bad deal" several times.

  2. PM defends decision to call an electionpublished at 21:58 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

Jeremy Paxman reminded the prime minister of another time she changed her mind - on increasing national insurance on the self employed - and says if he was in Brussels he would "think she was a blow hard who would collapse at the first sign of gunfire".

Theresa May rejected this, saying they would instead look at concessions she had got on home affairs.

Next he says she had denied there would be a general election.

Mrs May replies that she had wanted to deliver on Brexit but saw that other parties wanted to frustrate that process - and the will of the people - so decided in March - to have a general election.

Jeremy Paxman goes on to ask about her mistakes - and says her main task as home secretary had been to get net migration down to below 100,000.

She replies that there is more work to be done on immigration, that the government had been working on removing abuse of the system.

"It will be a constant work," she adds.

  3. Paxman challenges May over immigrationpublished at 21:57 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

Getting immigration down "will be a constant work" says Theresa May, rather than there being a "single moment."

  5. May under pressure over record of U-turnspublished at 21:53 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

Mrs May is not enjoying Paxman's claim that she is a "blow hard that collapses at the first sign of gunfire".

His theme - that she is not as strong as she claims and makes U-turns on big issues like National Insurance - is getting under her skin.

  6. May pressed on social carepublished at 21:50 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

Mrs May refuses to say at what level the social care cap will be set. Jeremy Paxman asks: "How is enabling rich people to pass on wealth to the next generation helping 'the just about managing'?"

"What we are doing ... means people don't have to sell their home," she says

  7. Paxman pushes May on whether she believes in Brexitpublished at 21:47 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

Mrs May tries to head off a classic Paxman tactic - repeating the same question - does she believe in Brexit?

"I believe in making a success of Brexit," she tells him. He says she still thinks it's a "duff" idea. Score draw?

  8. May quizzed over changing her mind on Brexitpublished at 21:47 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

When did Theresa May - who campaigned for Remain - change her mind, asks Paxman. Is she stuck with defending something she doesn't believe in?

Theresa May agrees she said Britain would be better off in the EU but also said the "sky wouldn't fall in" if Britain left.

"We gave people the choice and the British people chose to leave the European Union," she says, which goes down well with the audience.

  11. May: Sometimes you have to be difficultpublished at 21:43 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

Theresa May has one of her own quotes, from 2002 when she told Tory activists they were seen as the "nasty party", thrown back at her.

She prefers to pick up on another quote the questioner uses, when Ken Clarke called her a "bloody difficult woman". She wears that one as a badge of honour, saying "sometimes you have to be difficult' to get what you want in negotiations.

Pressed on whether she is turning the Tories back into the "nasty party" she says she is not afraid to take the tough decisions the country needs and says that she is ready to be difficult to get the best deal for the UK.

And that's the end of the audience questions. Jeremy Paxman next...

  12. PM challenged over 'chronic under-funding' of the NHSpublished at 21:41 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

A midwife from Devon asks how the prime minister justifies "the chronic under-funding" of the NHS.

Theresa May says: "We are making greater demands on the health service every year; we are increasing the funding in the health service and will do that in the future."

She goes on to say that people rely on the health service and know people who work in it or have had fantastic care, but says that can only only be done if there is a strong economy to pay for it.

She brings the point back to Brexit, saying that a good deal will ensure the economy is strong enough. The midwife is asked to give her opinon and says:

    Quote Message

I see a lot of efficiency savings that are cuts; I see hospitals closing; I see staff at their wits' ends because they can't give the care they want to - I will believe it when I see it."

  15. May tackled over Vote Leave £350m claimpublished at 21:35 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

Theresa May looks a little chastened as a Brexit voter says the only reason she voted out was the £350m a week they believed had been promised for the NHS.

The PM says claims were made by both sides, before moving on to an explanation of where she stands on Brexit and the fact the UK will be able to choose how to spend money that at the moment the EU spends.

It doesn't quite answer the question - although as a Remain campaigner Mrs May was not making the £350m claim at the time. The questioner seems happy with her answer.

  17. Theresa May put on spot over school fundingpublished at 21:31 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

The Conservative leader takes a question about school budget cuts. The PM says funding is not being fairly distributed at the moment.

She broadens the answer out to talk about her other education policies, not just money.

Pressed further on cuts, she says "nobody can guarantee real-terms per-pupil funding" which provokes some barracking from the audience, but she goes on to highlight stats suggesting more pupils are getting a better education since 2010.

  18. Theresa May: Poorer pensioners protected on fuel allowancepublished at 21:29 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

Theresa MayImage source, Channel 4/Sky News

Are we dividing England and Scotland by the winter fuel allowance, asks a woman in the audience.

This question is about the proposal to means-test the winter fuel allowance for pensioners in England.

Theresa May says that under devolved powers, it is up to Scotland what is done on welfare there.

She says the government wants to hear from people about where they think the cut off should be, but insists that poorer pensioners will be protected. The Conservative leader also says better off pensioners have said to her that they did not think they should be getting the allowance.

  20. There will be a social care cost cap - Maypublished at 21:27 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

Theresa May says there will be a cap on how much people will have to pay for their care out of their own assets.

As you'll remember the cap was not in the manifesto but was announced a few days later... Mrs May adds that the level of the cap will be set after consultation, so no figure for now, but she says they will listen to views on it.
