  1. Good morning and welcome backpublished at 06:42 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

Good morning and welcome back to coverage of all things election. Following on from last night's television debate, it's back to the campaign trail for the political leaders.

Prime Minister Theresa May is set to head to the North East of England - and what have traditionally been Labour heartlands.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will be off to South East England, and Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron is in London - preparing, no doubt, for his TV grilling by Andrew Neil on BBC1 later on.

Theresa May will set out her vision for a "Britain beyond Brexit" as she attempts to seize control of the agenda with a week to go to polling day.

Mrs May will pledge to use the "promise of Brexit" to build a "stronger, fairer and even more prosperous" country.

And she will urge voters to unite behind her leadership, in a speech in north-east England later.

For Labour, Jeremy Corbyn is promising to save commuters £1,000 on rail fares over the next five years.

  12. Wednesday's campaign developmentspublished at 23:12 British Summer Time 31 May 2017

A quick round-up of what happened today:

    • Jeremy Corbyn made a last minute decision to take part in a BBC debate with five other party leaders plus Home Secretary, Amber Rudd. Theresa May stayed away.
    • A representative audience in Cambridge asked about leadership...
    • ...how their parties would pay for their promises...
    • ...and which party would do most to help those in need.
    • The BBC's political editor, Laura Kuenssberg thought the Labour leader had scored a 'tactical victory' just for turning up.
    • Some opinion polls continued to suggest a narrowing of the gap between Labour and the Conservatives. Others suggested little change to the strong Tory lead.
