Labour's Baroness Shami Chakrabarti says Jeremy Corbyn has organised "a fantastic campaign" with people turning up "in their droves" at polling stations.
"That, in itself, is a victory," she says, adding: "This was a victory for democracy over terrorism," with hope triumphing over fear.
"Whatever happens tonight, politics in this country has changed ... it's more consensual, it's more about policies and issues."
As the exit poll pointed to a hung parliament - social media responded.

The BBC's Samira Ahmed says Zac Goldsmith believes he could be in with a chance of winning back Richmond Park from the Lib Dems.
Mr Goldsmith lost the seat at last year's by-election to Lib Dem Sarah Olney.

Constituencies that are estimated to have voted for Leave appear to be swinging towards the Conservatives so far. That also means Remain seats are swinging to Labour though.

Rosena Allin-Khan has held on to Tooting for the Labour Party.
The seat was previously held by London's mayor Sadiq Khan.
BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg says Tooting was a seat Labour had been worried about a few weeks ago.
At the count in Hastings, where speculation abounds that the home secretary could lose her seat, Amber Rudd says: "I'm not going to engage much until the votes are counted, I'm just quietly waiting, keeping an eye on everyone here."
She says she's "hopeful but not complacent".
