  2. Leonard says complaint process should be more streamlinedpublished at 08:39 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2019

Gary Robertson pivots to an internal matter, saying in March 2018 a councillor in Dumfries and Galloway was suspended from the party after making Islamophobic comments about Humza Yousaf.

    "Is that still being investigated?"

Yes by the national constitutional committee, replies Mr Leonard.

Why is it taking so long, asks the GMS presenter.

I recognise the frustration, says Mr Leonard but he points out he is not involved in the investigation and he does not know why it is taking so long.

He is surprised Humza Yousaf has not heard from the Labour party, adding it should have been a more streamlined process, "in my view it is completely unsatisfactory".

  3. No deals, pacts or coalitions with the SNP or anyone elsepublished at 08:36 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2019

Gary Robertson asks if Nicola Sturgeon made the scrapping of Trident a pre-condition of supporting Jeremy Corbyn, would the Scottish Labour leader back her on that.

Mr Leonard replies no, adding his party will not enter into any deals with any party.

The Scottish Labour party backs the scrapping of Trident, but also backs the UK-wide policy in its manifesto points out the GMS presenter.

It's a reserved matter, says Mr Leonard.

He reiterates there will be no deals, pacts or coalitions with the SNP or anyone else.

  4. Labour will not block indyref2 if SNP win majority at Holyroodpublished at 08:34 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2019

What would constitute a mandate for a second independence referendum, presenter Gary Robertson asks.

"We know that at the moment there is not a mandate, despite the claims of the SNP," replies Mr Leonard.

Gary Robertson points out there is pro-independence majority in the Scottish Parliament and it has passed legislation to that effect.

I think they've passed a motion, points out Mr Leonard, and he argues the Greens did not have indyref2 in their manifesto unless they got one million signatures on a petition which they have not.

A mandate must be achieved via a clear majority, the Scottish Labour leader says.

Mr Robertson asks if Jeremy Corbyn would say yes to a Section 30 order if the SNP won a majority at Holyrood in the next election.

The Scottish Labour leader says he will be fighting to win that election and if the SNP got a mandate for that in 2021, 2026 "or some future point," indyref2 will not be blocked by a Labour UK government.

We are saying no to a second independence referendum in the early years of a Labour government, for two to three years at least, he adds.

  5. Labour to 'right a historic wrong' and compensate Waspi womenpublished at 08:28 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2019

Gary Robertson says Labour's grey book did not mention the pledge to three million women that they will be compensated for the loss of pensions to the tune of £58bn.

Where will the money come from to pay for this?

Mr Leonard replies this is an exceptional sum to "right a historic wrong".

The Scottish Labour leader insists: "We will find the money to pay for that."

He says governments can borrow money to pay for exception items and insists it is "the right thing to do".

  6. What effect will an £11bn windfall tax on oil have in the north east?published at 08:23 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2019

What effect will an £11bn windfall tax on oil have in the north east of Scotland?

Mr Leonard replies there will be a consultation on this policy, but in principle Scottish Labour think it should happen.

There will be a transition fund for the workforce in oil and gas, he adds.

  7. Change in 'burden of taxation' to pay for manifesto pledgespublished at 08:20 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2019

How will all of the commitments in the Labour manifesto be paid for?

A change in the burden of taxation, replies Mr Leonard.

Capital gains should be taxed, as should dividend payments to shareholders, he explains.

Ultimately everyone will pay more under a Labour government, won't they asks Gary Robertson.

The Scottish Labour leader refutes this: "No, we've said we want to shift the burden of taxation."

  8. No form of Brexit is better than remaining in the EU - Leonardpublished at 08:17 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2019

Will Scottish Labour not back any deal negotiated by a Labour government?

Jeremy Corbyn will be bound by the outcome of the people's vote, says Mr Leonard.

Gary Robertson asks if Mr Leonard will not back any deal negotiated by a Labour government.

Mr Leonard says it is his belief there is no form of Brexit than is better than remaining in the EU.

  9. Labour 'will give people back the choice'published at 08:15 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2019

What else is Jeremy Corbyn neutral on asks Gary Robertson, highlighting austerity and climate change are also big issues.

He presses Mr Leonard on how it is the Labour leader can be neutral on such a big issue as Brexit.

"The Labour party will form a government that will give people back the choice in the cold light of day," argues Mr Leonard.

In contrast to that, you have a Tory government that would push through a hard Brexit, the Lib Dems would revoke Article 50 and turn their backs on the 52% who voted to leave, and the SNP whose position is a second independence referendum, Mr Leonard adds.

  10. And we're off...published at 08:11 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2019

Do you believe Brexit will be damaging to the Scottish economy, asks presenter Gary Robertson as he gets the interview underway.

"Yes I do," replies Mr Leonard, who says that is also the view of the Treasury and most independent analysts.

The imminent threat is that of the Boris Johnson style Brexit he says.

Gary Robertson says if Brexit is such an issue how can Jeremy Corbyn say he's neutral on the issue.

Mr Leonard replies 17 million voted to leave and 16 million voted to remain and the choice will be given back to the people within six months of a Labour government.

  11. General election 2019: Scottish Labour manifestopublished at 08:05 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2019

Scottish Labour has unveiled its vision for Scotland ahead of the 12 December general election.

Many of the pledges relate to issues, such as education or health, which are devolved to the Scottish Parliament.

This means Labour would either need to the win the support of the Scottish government or win the next Holyrood election in 2021 before the policy could be introduced.
