  3. Reality Check: Trump and Iraq warpublished at 03:25 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump clash on whether he supported the invasion of Iraq in 2003

Claim: Donald Trump claims to have been against the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He says it is "mainstream media nonsense put out by her" - pointing to Clinton.

Reality Check verdict: Trump claimed, external numerous times he did not support the US going to war in Iraq in 2003. He even claimed , externalhis opposition to the war was so strong he was visited by White House personnel who tried to silence him. But Buzzfeed uncovered a 2002 radio interview, external in which he supported the invasion. He did express concerns about the cost of the war, after it started. Trump says supportive comments in a radio interview with Howard Stern before the war started were made "lightly".

Trump: "You were secretary of state when it [ISIS] was a little infant ... now it’s in 30 countries, and you’re going to stop them? I don’t think so. I did not support the war in Iraq - that is a mainstream media nonsense, supported by her."

    Holt: "The record shows otherwise."

"I said it's a terrible and stupid thing and it's going to destabilise the Middle East ... I have much better judgement than she has. I also have a much better temperament than she has. I have a winning temperament."

    Clinton: "Whew ... OK!"

  5. Reality Check: 'Systemic racism'published at 03:19 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

Claim: Members of the black community are more likely to be arrested for the same crimes than white people

Reality Check verdict: It is hard to determine the percentage of crimes that result in arrest. What we do know is that black people are locked up five times as frequently as white people. African-American people make up about 13% of the United States population. White people make up 64%. Black people make up 40% of the prison population, and white people 39%. It does not mean that black people - who tend to live more in urban, heavily police areas, are five times as likely to commit crime however.

Hillary Clinton: "We have to address the systemic racism in our criminal justice system"

  10. Clinton on Putinpublished at 03:11 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

Clinton says she knows “Donald is very praiseworthy of Vladimir Putin … I was so shocked when Donald publicly invited Putin to hack into Americans”, referring to a previous remark he made appearing urging hackers to find Clinton’s deleted emails.

  11. Trump on birther movementpublished at 03:10 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

“He should have produced it a long time before,” Trump says of Obama's birth certificate, adding he did “great job and a great service for the country and even for the president".

Clinton fires back that Trump has a "long record of engaging in racist behaviour", including a lawsuit filed against him by the Justice Department in the 1973 alleging racial discrimination at one of his developments.

She adds that the birther movement claim was "hurtful" to Obama and she could tell how much it bothered him.

She then cites Michelle Obama at the Democratic National Convention: "When they go low, we go high, and Barack Obama went high despite Donald Trump's efforts to bring him down".

  12. Reality Check: Trump's tax returnspublished at 03:06 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

Donald Trump: "You don't learn that much from tax returns"

Claim: Trump says he is in the middle of a tax audit, but publishing his tax returns would not reveal much, as Clinton suggests he will never publish them as they might reveal he is not as rich as he says he is and does not give as much to charity as claimed.

Reality Check verdict: Being audited by the IRS does not prohibit the release of tax returns. They would reveal Trump's annual income, how much he pays in tax and how much he gives to charity. Trump claims he has given $102m to charity in the past five years, but a Washington Post investigation could not find he had given any cash. Trump's actual wealth has been assessed by Forbes , externalat $4.5bn, compared with the $10bn he claims.

  13. Clinton renews attackpublished at 03:02 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

In talking about his recent campaign stops in Philadelphia and Detroit, Trump accused Clinton of staying at home while he was on the trail.

Mrs Clinton refuses to let it slip by, saying: "I think that Donald just criticised me for preparing for this debate. And yes I did. And you know what else I prepared for? I prepared to be president. And that’s a good thing."

  14. Birther controversypublished at 03:01 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

Trump is asked about the birther controversy. He links Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal and her 2008 campaign manager Patti Doyle to the canard that Obama wasn’t born in the US.

  19. Clinton on racepublished at 02:50 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

Clinton: "Unfortunately, race still determines too much", she says, adding that it can determine where people live, education levels and "yes it determines how they're treated in the criminal justice system".

She says healing the race divide would include restoring trust between communities and the police, working to make sure police are using the best training, best techniques and "are prepared to use force only when necessary".

Clinton also adds that addressing the gun epidemic is a part of the resolution. "We have to tackle the plague of gun violence which is a big contributor to a lot of the problems we're seeing today."

  20. Reality Check: Islamic Statepublished at 02:49 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

Donald Trump attacks Hillary Clinton: "You have been fighting ISIS all your adult life"

Claim: Donald Trump blames the rise of ISIS on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Reality Check verdict: This is a strange claim to make. Clinton is 68 years old. The so-called Islamic State did not appear on the scene until 2009, although its roots stretch back to the Sunni terror group al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), which started in 2004.
