Mrs Clinton was elected senator of New York in 2000, garnering 55% of the vote to Republican Representative Rick Lazio's 43%. She was re-elected in 2006 with 67% of the vote.
Meanwhile her husband Bill Clinton won what The New York Times described, external as a “bitterly contested primary” with 41% of the vote in 1992, and went on to become president.

For Republicans, 95 delegates are up for grabs in New York. Most of the Republican delegates will be awarded by congressional district. Fourteen delegates will be allotted by the state-wide vote.
In the Democratic race, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders will complete for 247 delegates. Those delegates will be awarded proportionally.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz has already faced a slew of harsh words since criticising "New York values" earlier in his campaign. But one Republican congressman from New York went even further in a television interview earlier, saying he would "take cyanide" if Cruz ever got the nomination.
"I hate Ted Cruz," Peter King told MSNBC. King previously said that any New Yorker who was thinking of voting for Cruz "should have their head examined". He also said he was not endorsing Donald Trump, but that he expected him to win a big victory in New York.
