  3. How do voters cope with election stress?published at 23:03 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2016

For many, Wednesday cannot come soon enough. An online exit poll by Politico and Morning Consult asked Americans about their election emotions. The most popular responses? Anger, nervousness, anxiety … and more than anything the respondents “just want it to be over”.

And on that theme #PostVotingStressRelief has been on Twitter’s top list of trends all day, according to BBC Trending's Mike Wendling. More than 15,000 messages were sent using the hashtag. As you might guess, food and alcohol were major themes.

  6. No Nevada voting irregularities say civil rights groupspublished at 22:52 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2016

    James Cook
    BBC's North America Correspondent

Civil rights workers in Nevada say there have been “a few” isolated cases of voter intimidation in the state but that on the whole polling is progressing smoothly.

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Nevada legal director Amy Rose told the BBC there had been no reports of irregularities in the voting process, but one man was seen writing down car number plates outside a polling site.

Ms Rose was speaking outside a courtroom in Las Vegas after a judge threw out a case which had been brought by Donald Trump’s campaign, which is upset that some polling places in Nevada allowed voters to cast their ballots after closing time.

Francisco Morales, an activist who is coordinating efforts to increase Latino turnout in the election called the lawsuit "frivolous” and accused the lawyers of attempting to distract "from the fact that Latinos are voting in historic numbers."

Ms Rose was dismissive of Mr Trump’s persistent claims that the election would be “rigged” in favour of his Democratic Party opponent Hillary Clinton.

“It’s really next to impossible if not impossible,” she told the BBC. "Elections are so localised. There’s not one person in charge."

We heard earlier about problems with electronic voting system problems in North Carolina, a key swing state.

One pivotal county, Durham, has been having “check-in problems” with its software, which according to local media is causing long wait times.

Durham election officials voted earlier to extend the voting window by two hours this evening.

But in order to do so, it needs the approval of the North Carolina State Board of Elections - it just posted on Twitter that its 5-person board will host a teleconference within the next hour to discuss the request.
