  2. Idris Elba's double celebrationpublished at 17:00

    Idris Elba

Idris Elba received two nominations - best supporting actor for Beasts of No Nation and a best actor for BBC drama Luther.

He shared his delight with the Hollywood Reporter:

    Quote Message

Wow, thank you to the HFPA, who have always been so amazingly supportive of me throughout my career. I'm so excited, in particular, to be recognized for both Luther and Beasts of No Nation. For Luther, what better way to celebrate the end of a great run than with this stellar acknowledgement.

    Quote Message

As for Beasts, I can only hope this attention will get more people to see the brilliance of all that is Cary Fukunaga and my extraordinary co-star Abraham Attah. I share in this exciting moment with everyone who poured their hearts into these projects and for who I could not have done this without.

  3. Michael Fassbender 'grateful' for nominationpublished at 16:55

Michael Fassbender has earned himself a Golden Globe nomination for his role as the eponymous Steve Jobs.

    He said:

    Quote Message

Working with Danny Boyle and our amazing cast, has been one of the most creative and amazing experiences of my professional life. It's lovely to be honoured.

    Michael Fassbender

The film also picked up nominations for Kate Winslet, Aaron Sorkin (for best screenplay) and for Daniel Pemberton's score - who was suitably excited about his first Golden Globe nomination.

    Quote Message

That is proper bonkers! I wanted to 'Think Different' in how I approached this score and working with a cinematic visionary like Danny Boyle meant I could. Since Steve Jobs was brilliantly written by Aaron Sorkin in three acts I took three different musical approaches, so Danny got three scores for the price of one - Bargain of the year!

  4. The Revenant director Inarritu planning celebratory drinkpublished at 16:50

Alejandro G Inarritu has spoken to BBC News about his four Golden Globe nominations for The Revenant.

The film, which sees Leonardo DiCaprio playing an explorer who is left for dead after being mauled by a bear, is shortlisted for best dramatic film, best director, best actor (for DiCaprio) and best score.

    Quote Message

I think it’s very good news for the film and for all the crew and actors that were involved. It took a lot and we gave a lot.

He added he was looking forward to getting together with the team "to have a drink and celebrate after so much work".

Will Poulter, the 2014 winner of the Bafta Rising Star award, plays a young trapper who undergoes a dramatic rite of passage in the film.

He also shared his thoughts about awards season:

    Quote Message

With all this awards attention, I think often people think that might be the main objective or that was something we set out to achieve. I think for everyone the main objective was to create something very real and immersive and effective for audiences. All the awards attention is kind of a nice bonus to that.

So what was Kate Winslet doing when she heard the news she had been nominated for best supporting actress for her role as Apple marketing executive and confidante Joanna Hoffman in Steve Jobs?

Well, nothing very glamorous, as it turns out...

    She told us:

    Quote Message

I was trying to tidy away empty boxes that had been holding Christmas decorations that I just put up. It’s the story of my life.

    Quote Message

A journalist said earlier: ‘So how did you prepare for this day, did you get up early?’ And I said: ‘Yeah, I got up early and took the kids to school.' But I’m so thrilled, I can’t tell you.

Maybe treat yourself to a glass of bubbly after the homework then, Kate...

  7. Sheesh who? Dennis Quaid has a 'poop' momentpublished at 16:21

Last year's it was Dick Poop... and who can forget John Travolta famous tongue-mangling of Idina Menzel?

This year, it looks like poor old Saoirse Ronan is set to earn herself a new moniker, at least if Dennis Quaid's announcement skills are anything to go by.

  8. Alicia Vikander 'thrilled' by double nominationpublished at 16:04

Alicia Vikander is rapidly becoming a household name.

This year, the Swedish actress earned two nominations at the Golden Globes - for best actress in a dramatic film, following her turn opposite Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl, and for her supporting role, as a robot, in Ex Machina.

    She's clearly chuffed.

    Quote Message

I am truly thrilled and grateful to the HFPA for both these wonderful nominations! To be considered amongst all these brilliant actresses and their outstanding performances is such an honour. Working on The Danish Girl and Ex Machina were such gifts in themselves, and for this to happen is all so wonderful. Thank you.

  9. No love for Depp at the Globespublished at 15:50

Johnny Depp was overlooked for a best actor nod for Black Mass, just a day after securing a Screen Actors Guild nomination.

His spot in the Globes shortlist was taken by Will Smith for Concussion.

Conversely, The Martian made up for its lack of recognition at the SAGs with a controversial nomination in the comedy/musical film category - plus a nomination for Sir Ridley Scott in the best director category. As previously discussed, the film's categorisation has raised many an eyebrow, as it's hardly full of belly laughs.

One week on from the Lenny Henry/Ainsley Harriot mix-up, whoever was tweeting on behalf of the Golden Globes got their Latin American actresses confused.

They captioned a picture of presenter America Ferrera with the Twitter handle of Gina Rodriguez, who herself got a nomination for Jane the Virgin.

  12. Gaga's dream morningpublished at 14:57

Lady Gaga is no stranger to winning awards in both the music and fashion worlds.

Now she can add actress to her award nomination credentials.

And she is certainly one happy woman this morning, after hearing the news she was nominated for a best supporting actress Globe for her turn in American Horror Story: Hotel.

The Globes voting panel shared the love around the rest of the nominees, with The Big Short, The Revenant and Steve Jobs all picking up four nominations.

  14. Phew - well, that took its toll on the entertainment teampublished at 14:24

It makes for an interesting roll-call, when it takes as long to read the title of the award as the list of nominees!

And Mark Ruffalo's nomination for Infinitely Polar Bear really threw us.

In fact, he seems pretty surprised himself...
