TV chef James Martin has admitted he was surprised at the public reaction to his departure from Saturday Kitchen, as he thought nobody would notice.

Martin, who presented the BBC cookery show for a decade, stepped down at the end of March.

    He recalled:

    Quote Message

I said to the guys at the Beeb, 'Oh just put it out there, nobody will notice me leaving.' Pfft! It was on the front page of every newspaper going.

It's surreal, it's quite weird, but very touching for me, because for something that you've done for so long, for people to have that reaction with it, it's pretty moving. I'm a grown farmer's kid from Yorkshire, but I was touched with that one, that's pretty special.

Martin will now be partnering with supermarket Asda. But he has not bid cookery TV farewell completely, continuing to appear on Saturday Kitchen Best Bites on BBC Two on Sunday mornings.

We already know that one former Friends cast member, Matt LeBlanc, is a big fan of the UK.

He's one of the new presenters of Top Gear, for which filming is currently under way, and he's previously appeared in BBC sitcom Episodes, alongside Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan.

Well, it appears another of his Friends gang wants to develop a television career in the UK, with Courtney Cox reportedly working on a new sitcom for ITV.

The actress is set to shoot a pilot of the show next year with British production house Big Talk.

Provisionally titled Truthing, the comedy is set in a new age healing retreat led by a charismatic American founder.

It will be written by Mark Chappell, whose credits include The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret and the snooker comedy-drama The Rat Pack. He was previously working on a six-part series called Bliss, which he co-created with David Cross.

The world premiere of a new play by Philip Ridley is to be staged in a "secret location" in London.

Karagula, a "sweeping fantasy epic... that chimes chillingly with events in the world today", is described as one the largest ever Off-West End productions.

It will be directed by Max Barton, who said:

It’s a thrilling prospect to be on the brink of realising this epic play. It's so exciting to be working with the ground-breaking Philip Ridley again. In order to bring the wildly imaginative world of Karagula to life, we have assembled a brilliantly diverse group of artists, who bring non-traditional skills and vision to the process.

Ridley's plays include The Pitchfork Disney, The Fastest Clock in the Universe and Tender Napalm. His children's novels include 1991 award-winning Krindlekrax.

Karagula will run from 10 June to 9 July, with the location being revealed closer to opening.

Chyna's manager thinks she died from an accidental overdose of a prescription sleeping pill and a tranquilizer.

The former professional WWE wrestler and porn actress was found dead last week at home.

Her manager, Anthony Anzaldo, believes it's a "98% certainty" that the cause of her death was from an overdose.

No cause of death has been released by the Los Angeles County coroner's office because results of toxicology tests still haven't been revealed.

First though, let's bring you a round-up of last night's BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

The Unthanks won the big prize of the night - album of the year - for the ambitious, melancholy Mount The Air.

The award was presented to them by Sherlock star Martin Freeman, a "big fan" who praised their "blatant disregard for genre or rules":

The record, which received a host of five star reviews, is notable for its 10-minute title track, which marries a traditional Dorset folk song with Miles Davis-inspired trumpet figures.

"TEN MINUTES?" We hear you cry. "I don't have 10 minutes."

Well fortunately there's also a much shorter radio edit, which you can have a listen to here:

The band closed the ceremony, at London's Royal Albert Hall, by playing the song, complete with clog dancing.

Joan Armatrading also played and took home a lifetime achievement award.

Presenting the award, Radio 2's Sara Cox called Armatrading an "understated trailblazer".

Armatrading said she was "surprised and delighted" to be recognised for her contribution to British music, including songs such as Weakness In Me, Love and Affection, Willow and Down To Zero, which she played on stage.

    Quote Message

I have heard people say that awards don't mean much to them but for me, being given an award means that I am being told that my music is being appreciated. As a singer-songwriter that's one of the main things I'm asking for.
