British actors are well represented in the TV categories this year, thanks to dramas such as The Night Manager, The Crown and Westworld.

BBC drama The Night Manager leads the Brit-pack with four nominations, including acting nods for Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman.

Thandie Newton is nominated for her role in Westworld, while Claire Foy is nominated in the leading actress category for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown.

All three shows, however, are trumped by The People vs. OJ Simpson – which leads the TV categories with four acting nods for its stars plus a nomination for best miniseries.

Here's how I think the main film awards will play out. La La Land will grab the most awards - six wins (including the music and writing categories) would be a decent night's work. Have a look at the full list of nominations and let us know your tips.

    • Best director: Damien Chazelle (La La Land).
    • Best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a motion picture: Viola Davis (Fences).
    • Best performance by an actor in a supporting role in a motion picture: Mahershala Ali (Moonlight).
    • Best performance by an actress in a motion picture - comedy or musical: Emma Stone (La La Land).
    • Best performance by an actor in a motion picture - comedy or musical: Ryan Gosling (La La Land).
    • Best performance by an actress in a motion picture - drama: Natalie Portman (Jackie).
    • Best performance by an actor in a motion picture - drama: Denzel Washington (Fences). Casey Affleck is favourite for Manchester By The Sea, but I think Denzel could cause an upset.
    • Best motion picture - comedy or musical: La La Land.
    • Best motion picture - drama: Manchester by the Sea. Although this is the closest race of the night - Moonlight is a strong contender.
