British actress Olivia Colman broke The Favourite's losing streak to win best actress for her portrayal of Queen Anne in the witty comedy drama.

She clearly didn't expect it, bursting into tears of joy on the way to the stage.

"It's genuinely quite stressful," Colman wept. "This is hilarious. Got an Oscar!"

When production staff signalled she should wrap, Colman blew a raspberry and continued to thank her family, the film's cast and crew and star of the night, Lady Gaga!

  2. It's time for the biggies... here comes best actorpublished at 03:51 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2019

It's Rami Malek for Bohemian Rhapsody! He repeated his success from the Baftas and Golden Globes.

"My mom is in here somewhere... I love you lady! My family, thank you for all of this... my dad didn't get to see me do any of this but I think he's looking down on me right now. This is a monumental moment.... Thank you Queen... I'm forever in your debt. I think about what it would have been like to tell little bubba Rami that this might happen to him one day and I think his curly-haired little mind would have been blown. To anyone... trying to discover their voice, we made a film about a gay man, an immigrant... we're longing for stories like this. I'm a first generation American, my story is being written right now."

He also thanked his girlfriend and co-star: "Lucy Boynton, you are the heart of this film... and you captured my heart."

"My 15 minutes of fame seem to be carrying on for another 15 minutes," laughs Paul Lambert backstage.

He's one of the few British winners this evening, recognised in the visual effects category for his work on First Man.

It's the second year in a row he's taken home this prize, after winning in the same category last year for Blade Runner 2049.

"This is like a fantastic occasion... and the fact we've been honoured by the Academy is truly magnificent," he says.

  7. Falling out of favour?published at 03:31 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2019

There's only a handful of Oscars now up for grabs, and none so far have gone to The Favourite which had been, erm, one of the hot favourites, with ten nominations.

If it gets none, it will be only one miss short of the record held by The Color Purple and and The Turning Point, which went away empty-handed, despite having 11 nominations.

The last film to get 10 nominations and win none was American Hustle in 2014.

  8. Best original scorepublished at 03:27 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2019

It was another win for Black Panther - the first Oscar and nomination for Ludwig Goransson.

"Working with you has been an incredible honour," he told director Ryan Coogler from the stage, adding that he could remember 12 years ago when they were students first working together on a short film.

  9. Oscars not so whitepublished at 03:26 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2019

There's been praise for the diverse line-up of presenters and performers at this years Academy Awards.

It feels like there's been a big change since the #OscarsSoWhite controversy of 2015.

There is so much love out there for the quiveringly romantic performance Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga just pulled out of the bag.

They walked onstage hand in hand, and gazed into each other's eyes for the entire duration of the song Shallow from their film A Star is Born. First they faced each other over the top of a grand piano and then they shared a stool and a microphone, while a camera circled them.
