  5. Boseman disappointmentpublished at 06:52 British Summer Time 26 April 2021

Many on social media were surprised that Chadwick Boseman missed out on the best actor prize.

There was a sense it had all been "teed up" for the late American's posthumous win.

That's because the last category to be announced is usually best picture, but that was changed to best actor - which was ultimately won by Anthony Hopkins, not Boseman.

Boseman, best known for playing Black Panther in the hit Marvel superhero franchise, died of bowel cancer last year aged 43.

His last on-screen appearance, which earned him his nomination, came in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

So we said there were no parties but that wasn't strictly true.

Sir Elton John usually holds a big Oscars bash in support of the Elton John Aids Foundation but this year he had to get more creative to raise funds - and came up with a virtual Oscars viewing party, external.

Dua Lipa, Cynthia Erivo and the cast of C4 hit drama It's A Sin were all "there".

  9. No party timepublished at 05:33 British Summer Time 26 April 2021

The usual glam parties are off due to... you guessed it, coronavirus. But we'll still bring you reaction to this year's Oscars from the press room and social media.

  10. How it all panned outpublished at 05:13 British Summer Time 26 April 2021

Frances McDormand and Chloe ZhaoImage source, Getty Images

Well it was several months later than planned and a little different in style due to the pandemic - several venues and no host per se - but we got there in the end.

As predicted by many bookmakers, Nomadland was the big winner on the night with three awards. Chloe Zhao made history by becoming the first woman of colour - and only the second woman ever - to win the best director award at the Oscars.

We wonder if Frances McDormand will find that karaoke bar she mentioned? Seems like a long shot right now.

Sound of Metal, The Father and Judas and the Black Messiah were not far behind her film with two wins apiece each, along with Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Mank and Soul.

McDormand urged everyone to try and watch them all on a big screen ASAP.

Some entertainment experts were left feeling a bit flat about that Oscars ending.

Finishing with the best actor award meant it was always likely to be won by either someone who wasn't there (Hopkins) or someone who is sadly no longer with us (Boseman).

OK, while we catch our breath, here's the full list of winners from the 93rd Academy Awards.

Elegance, flamboyance, and an explosion of colour.

Here are 13 of the biggest and best looks from this year's Oscars, which has now ended.

  14. Find out more about The Fatherpublished at 04:34 British Summer Time 26 April 2021

The Father is about a family dealing with the ravages of dementia but places the audience in the mind of the main character, who has the disease.

It's confusing and clever. Read more about it here.

  15. Best actorpublished at 04:14 British Summer Time 26 April 2021

The final award of the night goes to Sir Anthony Hopkins for The Father.

Many thought it would go to the late Chadwick Boseman for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, although Sir Anthony's portrayal of a man with dementia in The Father was also widely praised.

The 83-year-old Welsh actor wasn't at the ceremony (in person at any of the venues or via video) and it was collected on his behalf by Joaquin Phoenix.

Hopkins is now the oldest actor to have won the award.

  16. Best actresspublished at 04:12 British Summer Time 26 April 2021

    Frances McDormand - Nomadland.

She'd barely sat down, before she had to get back up and collect another award.

Luckily the ceremony is reduced in size this year so she didn't have too far to go.

She quipped that the event should've been turned into a karaoke night, before channelling her character Fern to express how much she enjoys her work.

We make that three wins for Nomadland - the most on the night for any film.

And the winner (of the big one) is... Nomadland.

Director Chloe Zhao thanked some of the real-life Nomads that appear as themselves in the film, such as Bob, Linda and Swankie.

"Thank you for teaching us the power of resilience and hope, and for reminding us what true kindness looks like," said Zhao.

Lead actor Frances McDormand then let out an almighty howl, after encouraging people to return to the cinema.

  18. What have we missed?published at 04:02 British Summer Time 26 April 2021

This ceremony is moving at quite a pace now.

Viola Davis presented Tyler Perry with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

Shortly after that, Stevie Wonder's classic As rang out as images were displayed of stars who have recently died, including Chadwick Boseman, Sean Connery, Christopher Plumber and Helen McCrory.

  19. Questlove is now on the deckspublished at 04:02 British Summer Time 26 April 2021

The Roots man said earlier that his band used to be America's band but that for tonight his music belonged to the world.

He's currently scratching his way though an Oscars music quiz mix of sorts.

And Glenn Close is now shaking her derrière. Yes, you read that right. She knows how to do Da Butt dance.

Riz Ahmed met his future wife, the author Fatima Farheen Mirza, while preparing for his part in Sound of Metal.

Their eyes met over a crowded internet cafe, so the story goes.

Judging by his behaviour on the red carpet she has him well trained already.
