  9. SNP to Theresa May: Why are you running scared of a TV debate?published at 12:24 British Summer Time 19 April 2017

    House of Commons
    Parliament

Theresa May says it's clear from statements from the SNP and other opposition parties that they had planned to frustrate the Brexit process.

She said what the British people voted for last year was for the UK to leave the EU.

The SNP's Westminster leader Angus Robertson criticised remarks about Brexiteers in the British press. He asked why Mrs May was running scared of a televised debate with SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon.

The PM defended a free press and, regarding the TV debate, said she would be out campaigning during the general election.

She asked the SNP to put aside their "tunnel vision" on independence. She asked why the party was not putting money into the health service and education in Scotland.

"It's time they got back to the day job," she said.

    BBC Radio 5 live

In Chester, politics teacher Mike Cosstick told us it was "a real struggle" to engage anyone under the age of 18.

"In some aspects Brexit and the American election have really given young people a voice. Social media in particular gives them access to politics," he told BBC Radio 5 live

"When you dig down, certain students know a lot about it, but the vast majority really only hear or repeat what their parents have said or what's been said on social media," he added.

In Bath, Theo Knott and Ben Walker disagreed. They said the election could engage young voters this time around.

    House of Commons
    Parliament

Jeremy Corbyn accuses the Conservatives of failing to address debt, deficit, living standards and schools funding - "why should anyone believe a word they say over the next seven weeks?"

Theresa May says every vote for the Conservatives will make it harder for those who want to stop her getting the Brexit job done, and will make her stronger when she negotiates Britain's exit from the EU.

  13. Leaders joust over which party has the best recordpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 19 April 2017

    House of Commons

Theresa May says under the Conservatives 1.8m children "are in good or outstanding schools", unlike Labour's "same old one size fits all" model.

Labour's Mr Corbyn continues, by asking why so many old people are not getting the dignity they deserve.

Mrs May says she is proud of her party's record on the NHS, which is boasting record levels of funding, which can only happen with a strong economy.

    House of Commons
    Parliament

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn asks the prime minister why, if she is so proud of her record, she will not debate it on television.

He says that in 2010 the Conservatives promised to eradicate the deficit by 2015, and then by 2020. "Austerity has failed - do you know which year the deficit will be eradicated?"

  20. Corbyn taunts May over election U-turnpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 19 April 2017

    House of Commons
    Parliament

    Jeremy CorbynImage source, HoC

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn taunts the prime minister for consistently saying she would not hold a general election before changing her mind.

He says more households are in debt, six million people earn less than the living wage, and pensioner poverty is up. "Why are so many people getting poorer?" he said.

Theresa May says she has been debating these matters ever since she became prime minister last year. "I will be taking out to this campaign a strong record of a Conservative government," she said.
