Speaking on stage at the One Love Manchester concert in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham has expressed support for Londoners.

"We have received so many messages in recent days, so tonight, Manchester, let's send our own to our friends in London who are going through the same as we were going through," he said.

"We know how you are feeling but we will stand with you and we will get through this together."

  7. Corbyn: Can't protect public 'on the cheap'published at 19:19 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

    Jeremy Corbyn

In an attack on Theresa May, Mr Corbyn said "you cannot protect the public on the cheap" and called for the police and security services to "get the resources they need, not 20,000 police cuts."

"Theresa May was warned by the Police Federation but she accused them of crying wolf”, he added.

  8. Vigil to be held on Mondaypublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

A vigil to honour the victims of the attack will take place on Monday night.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has organised the event at Potters Fields Park, near to London Bridge.

The Mayor will be joined by senior representatives of the Metropolitan Police, the British Transport Police, London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and civic, faith and community leaders.

Mr Khan said: "By standing together as a city we will send a powerful message here and around the world - that Londoners will never be cowed by terrorism."

The vigil will begin at 6pm, with a minute's silence being held at 6.20pm.

  9. Corbyn: 'Resist division' after terror attackpublished at 19:12 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

Mr Corbyn also called for the public to resist division in the wake of another terror attack on UK shores.

"Our democratic values must be maintained," he said. "We must resist Islamophobia and division and turn out on 8 June united in our determination to show our democracy is strong."

He also returned to his comments on terror links to foreign policy, adding: "We do need to have some difficult conversations starting with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states that have funded and fuelled extremist ideology."

  10. Corbyn: 'They want our election to be halted'published at 19:06 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

Commenting on his return to campaigning, Mr Corbyn said the election had now turned into more than a fight between the Tories and Labour, calling it a “struggle between terrorism and democracy itself”.

“The mass murderers who brought terror to our streets in London and Manchester want our election to be halted,” he said.

“They want democracy halted. They want their violence to overwhelm our right to vote in a fair and peaceful election and to go about our lives freely.

“That is why it would be completely wrong to postpone next Thursday’s vote, or to suspend our campaigning any longer.”

  11. Corbyn: Police should 'take whatever action is necessary'published at 19:04 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

Jeremy Corbyn has said Labour's priority is public safety, pledging to “take whatever action is necessary and effective” to protect the UK.

He said he agreed with giving “full authority” to the police to use “whatever force is necessary to protect and save life, as they did last night [and] in Westminster in March”.

Mr Corbyn then reiterated his party’s manifesto pledge to recruit another 10,000 police officers.

Harun Rashid, the secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), has expanded on his earlier condemnation of the attack.

He backed Prime Minister Theresa May's call for change, echoing her remark that "enough is enough".

"We are ready to have those difficult conversations, as equal citizens with an equal stake in this fight," he said.

"I am pleased that the Prime Minister is speaking about conversation, it implies that we must listen to one another and work together to be part of a truly United Kingdom."

He said the MCB would now launch a new campaign with mosques to report suspicious activity.

"We want to turn people's minds away from this death cult," he said.

  13. Friend reported suspected attacker to anti-terror hotlinepublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

A friend of one of the suspected attackers says he had reported him to the anti-terror hotline, but no action was taken.

The man, who asked not to be named, told the BBC's Asian Network that the pair had spoken about previous attacks and he was shocked at what he had heard.

"We spoke about a particular attack that had happened and, like most radicals, he had a justification for anything, everything and anything," he said. "That day I realised that I need to contact the authorities."

But the friend claims the suspected attacker was not arrested and was allowed to keep his passport.

"I phoned the anti-terrorist hotline and spoke to the gentleman," he said. "I told him about our conversation and why I think he has been radicalised.

"I did my bit, but the authorities didn't do their bit."

The BBC has asked Scotland Yard for a response.

  16. The view from abroad: Britain reeling from attack?published at 18:45 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

How foreign media reported on the London attack:

A headline in Germany's Die Welt said terror had "undermined the self-confidence of Britons".

Australia's The Age said there was "the first sign of a crack in the resolute British demeanour."

And the New York Times said the UK was "reeling" from the attack.

Londoners, however, disagreed. By early afternoon, "things that leave Britain reeling" was a top trend on Twitter, with irreverent Londoners posting more mundane British fears.

  17. Hunt praises 'extraordinary' NHSpublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

He said doctors had cycled through the night to get to work

    Jeremy Hunt

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has praised NHS staff for their work following last night’s attack.

Speaking outside University College Hospital, he said: "I’ve just come here to thank NHS staff who have done an extraordinary job in the last 24 hours.

"They say this is just what they do - but it isn't what they normally do.

"The fact is we've seen paramedics running into danger precisely at the moment other people were running away from danger, because of their vocation to save lives.

"We've had doctors cycling through the night to get back to operating theatres.

"The NHS was there within six minutes of the first calls coming in – and many many lives were saved."
